A Right Royal Rumble

On a cold windy morning at Ascot the Buffalos arrived at the Racecourse ground to experience the excellent facilities on offer. A well stocked tea bar, superb pitch and a warm a friendly welcome from the opposition manager and coaches. But that is where Ascot Royals draw the line as on the pitch they are a highly skilled and a ruthless side that send the opposition home thinking of what might have been.

The id cards were checked and the game got underway and soon enough we noticed something was wrong - very wrong. Instead of Ascot taking control of the game it was the Buffalos that were matching them in every department and the opening 10 minutes were very even.

With the wind behind them in the first half Ascot forced a corner and from this a succession of about 10 corners which were well dealt with by the Buffalos defence. I think it was probably our kind nature that we decided that Ascot were not going to score from any of their corners that we should to do it for them with Riley expertly flicking the ball into the top corner.

Now that was over with, the boys could get back to playing football. Both teams creating good chances but were thwarted by the goalkeepers. The Buffalos had now taken control of the game by playing excellent football and started to put the Ascot defence under pressure. From a Bufflaos corner we showed Ascot how it should be done with Riley climbing to place an well directed header into the top of the Ascot net to level up the score for both himself and the Bufflaos.

The Buffalos continued to outplay Ascot with the defence in total command and the midfield being the first to the tackle and winning the battle in midfield and the forwards pressurising the Ascot defenders. On the balance of play it was no surprise when the Buffalos took the lead when a dangerous ball into the box was turned into their own net. Not content with this lead the Buffalos pressed forward and went 3-1 up when Rhys broke away from the Ascot defence and neatly tucked the ball into the bottom corner.

At half time it was fair to say that the parents on the side were very pleased with the boys performance and in all honesty a little surprised. With a lead of 3-1 and the wind now at our backs it was going to take a massive effort from Ascot to get back into the game. Ascot kept battling and the Buffalos kept on working and both teams created chances but Louis and the Ascot and keeper kept the the ball out of the net. The Buffalos continued to outplay the Royals in every department and eventually extended their lead when Rhys for the second time this season found the back of the net from a corner.

Game over!! The boys played the better football until the final whistle and completed an outstanding 4-1 victory. The game was played in an excellent spirit and congratulations to both teams for putting on a good display.

Now - I am not sure what happened today but all of the boys played the whole game like they had been transformed into superheros (even thought the id cards were checked) and whoever they were could they all please turn up again for the rest of the season.
