Cup 1/4 final v Div 1 Chesapeake today... I have to admit that all week i was chomping at the bit for this morning to come along as I was excited to see how we’d match up against Chesapeake as I knew a good result would buoy the lads going into the final weeks of the season Training Thursday was brilliant but I had to give few lads a breather who play for different teams on a Saturday as I was getting reports of knocks and strains etc and I know as a coach you have to manage the players well if they are to be at their best come the weekend We kicked off on a lovely morning at Chello Park and it didn’t take long for us to get to grips with the game, our midfield with power, strength and skill were starting to ask questions if the Chesapeake back line, and the endeavour shown would bring its rewards with the inform Charlie scoring from range after some fine pressure play by Chris and Karsen our forwards. 1-0 would soon become 2-0 and the dangerous and inform Chris would get his first of the game, Chris is such a dominant player so much so I could hear the Chesapeake lads telling teammates to double up on him. At one stage when Chris had the ball on the edge of the area I counted 4 blue shirts around him and he still came out on top!! Anyway Chris would soon get his second of the game and Chellos third. The lively Jayden would then proceed to add our forth after some great running down the wing, Jayden is a lovely player to watch and when bang on form I don’t think any defender would want to play against him. Chesapeake would find themselves with an easy chance to find the net after a long ball over the top would bounce for their striker to latch onto as our GK was in two minds weather to leave his line for it or not. Half Time 4-1 Team talk would be to send the message that work rate would need to be maintained and no games are easy regardless of the half time result. I didn’t need to worry, this team have a togetherness that you would bite somebodies hand off for, they all play for each other and want to succeed for each other, unity is key and these lads have it in abundance Chesapeake were well and truly stifled now and it wasn’t long before they switched going with an extra player up front, this worked into our hands I think as our midfield were now finding extra space to work their magic and soon enough the goals would come Jayden got his second and Chellos 5th, Reece would send a magnificent through ball for Jayden to race onto and lift the ball over the Chesapeake keeper and into the net. Not long after Jayden would complete his hat trick again using his pace, strength and trickery to round off a fantastic performance from our ever improving winger. Not long after Fin would score an absolutely fantastic goal to round off another hard working display from him, Fin is very much a confidence player and he’s starting to put in some great performances at the business end of the season. Not finished our right back Tom would win a great challenge and go on a mazy run taking on two players and unselfishly laying it off to Chris who would complete his hat-trick and round off a superb Chello performance to book our place in the semi final with the final result being 8-1 I know I’m here every week banging on about how good this Chello side is, but I’m extremely proud of the lads and I will rave about them as much as possible when they deserve it. It’s not easy, these lads train hard every week, not just for me but for their Saturday teams too, so they deserve as much praise as I can give them. Let’s not forget that 12 of these players were playing Div 3 football not too long ago so they are improving all the time and working hard to maintain consistency and trying to improve, hopefully they’ll be getting rewards for their hard work. I have to mention Reece he missed last weeks crucial league game through injury and I know he was gutted not to be playing, but he came back today and in a CM berth I thought he was absolutely outstanding. Well done lads, I’m buzzing for you all. ??
