Away friendly match played on 14 July 2019.
Kicked off at 10:30 AM

Following on from a fairly comfortable win against Bargate last week the boys would have to be on form to battle Mickleover having lost to them both home and away in the league last year. But on form they were. Right from the off we poured forward, again putting the pressure on their defence rather than ours. Having previously been used to so much possession, Jeevan is now starting to look slightly bored at the back which is testament to those playing in front of him. When I first became involved I used to notice although incredibly good with his head, Jeevan often didn’t’ want to come forward for corners but now he’s the first one running up the pitch knowing if he doesn’t, he may well not see the ball again for long periods ! First on the scoresheet was super striker Connor who did exactly what we’ve been asking of him….. hold the ball, turn and shoot from range. And what a shot it was. On a day of fantastic goals, this still managed to stand out. 2 in 2 games for the rejuvenated Connor, well done. Normally our star performer in the middle of the park, today we decided to push Harry slightly further forward as a striker and he didn’t disappoint, goal number two was his. First 2 goals were from the 2 strikers, exactly as is should be, the boys behind creating the chances and the ones on the pitch designated to score, do so. With his fantastic “anything you co do I can do better” attitude, Jayden was never going to stay quiet so to prove his point, the next TWO were his ! Fantastic individual goals again, his power and desire again was simply fantastic today. Last but not least, up stepped Jamie with his never say die "bulldog" spirit. Jamie’s strength and speed was fantastic again today, being subbed a couple of times meant his legs were kept fresh and talk about an impact sub, first touch of the ball on this visit ended with it in the back of the net. I have to say on another day Jamie could easily have bagged a hat-trick and I’m sure before the end of the season, he’ll get one. Fantastic game again today and not just for the goals, from Josh at the back all the way through to the strikers at the front, the skill and desire was there for all to see. Although this could be almost any of the lads today, man of the match had to go again to Ben, I think we asked him to play in at least 3 positions today, not one moan and absolutely fantastic in all. The rock everywhere he played. Now a particular pleasing part for me, and hopefully all of you as parents. Upon my return from the game I received a text message from Mickleovers manager who I have to say was gracious in defeat and a credit to his own club which read “A great effort from both teams played in great spirit. Top lads and top coaches, it was a pleasure”. That’s how at Chellaston we want to be remembered after the game and really shows how the team as a whole, are maturing and enjoying what they are doing. Onto the next one next Friday evening at the racecourse where we play Division 2’s Spondon Dynamo’s. Slightly higher competition which is more than achievable to not only compete against, but also to beat. So lets get the lads up for it and we’ll see how far we’ve come.
