A Division 2 Cup match between St Thomas Aldridge and Wolves and Perton was greeted by a crisp autumn morning. Both teams were unbeaten at the start of this game, with WP looking to build on an impressive first win of the season 2 weeks ago. The game started very sloppy with both teams failing to get the ball down on a tricky surface. The deadlock was broken when a free kick was awarded to WP around 25 yards out. The Wolves and peron Captain Luke French stepped up and confidently bent the ball over the wall, into the top corner leaving the St. Thomas keeper with little chance, 1-0.

This seemed to give the visitors some confidence and Wolves and Perton started to get the ball down and play, a second goal was added shortly after when Jason Parmer capitalised on some poor St. Thomas defending to calmly slot passed the keeper from around 15 yards, 2-0.

At this stage both teams were starting to get the ball down and play, some great midfield work from St. Thomas set up a chance and with the Wolves and Perton defence and goalkeeper failing to deal with the bouncing ball leaving St. Thomas striker Tommy Wright to head over the stranded keeper to pull a goal back, 2-1.

Wolves shortly restored their 2 goal advantage when a fantastic ball whipped into the box by Steven Worley came off the head of the St. Thomas defender into the top corner registering an OG, 3-1.

HT - The half time whistle blew and the score line seemed to be fair assessment of the first half.

St. Thomas started the second half in top gear pushing the Wolves and Perton defence back and playing the ball around very nicely, creating a couple of half chances but failing to score. After spending the majority of the first 10 minutes of the second half in their own half, Wolves and Perton then broke forward with a nice passing move which was very nicely finished by Nathan Lodge from the edge of the area to make the score 4-1.

Because the 5th goal of the game was against the run of play, this seemed to knock the stuffing out of the St. Thomas players.  A free kick was awarded on the right hand side, the ball was whipped to the back post and headed away, the ball was then pick up by Luke French who lofted the ball back into the St. Thomas area where Daryl Dillon was on hand to head in at the back post from a couple of yards out, 5-1.

At this stage WP were in complete control and they finished the match of in style when Nat Lodge grabbed his second of the game being played in nicely and rolling the ball past the St Thomas keeper to make the score 6-1.

Although St. Thomas put Wolves and Perton under some pressure during the game, it was a well deserved win for the new look Wolves and Perton, it seems new signings and new management are gelling very well and it keeps Wolves and Perton unbeaten at the start of the season. All the best for St. Thomas this season, in both the cup and the league. We look forward to hosting you later on in the year.
