Washington River Bar 8 - 0 Victory Club
A shambolic display saw the Victory Club fall to another defeat at the hands of Washington River Bar.
The Victory fell behind within the first 10 minutes as River Bar attacked Vcitory right hand side crossed the ball in and although the first header was well saved by stand in Keeper Rodgers the ball was hacked over the line on the re-bound. The Victory soon fell two behind as a corner was poorly defender and the CB from River Bar put the the bullet header into the far corner of the net. Is this frantic first period which was like attack versus defence it was three, a lack of discipline saw a free kick be conceded, from the resulting kick Rodgers split the ball straight into the path of the on rushing forward who tapped the ball home.
More drama was to follow as Mark Dryden fouled the River Bar forward to concede a penalty, but suprisingly from the spot kick, Rodgers pulled off a superb save low to his right and pushed the ball to safety. Then moments later a stupendous effort from the River Bar winger saw Rodgers tip the ball over as it headed into the top corner! The reprieve didn't last long as from the resulting corner a header was saved only for the re-bound to be hacked over line a sense of de-ja vu was creeping into this performance.
It was soon five as the Scott Hunter lost his man in the sunlight and the header was in the back of the net for FIVE! The Victory then registered their first shot in the 39th minute but it was skied by Scott Hunter.
The game turned into a farce just before the half time whistle as Peter Harding clearly won the ball but referee Harkness pointed to the spot on the back of a shout from a River Bar player. This time Rodgers was unable to save the spot kick and and the score became SIX! Vics skipper Greg Davison was booked for a sarcastic clap towards the referee.
Half Time
At Half Time Rodgers made two changes replacing Collins and Smith (Who Never touched the ball) with Stores and Timm and changed formation to 4-4-2.
The second half was a dull affair with nothing to play for really, but within the first five minutes the Victory had a penalty shout which was amazingly turned down by the referee. Rob Timm then had a golden opportunity but he put his shot somewhere into orbit and I think it's currently on it's way to the moon it went that high!
River Bar took control and peppered the goal and on several occassions tested Rodgers or were wasteful not even hitting the target.
They finally got a seventh as another set play was not dealt with and the header ended up in the back of the net. Shortly before the end an Eighth was added as a slick River Bar move was despatched into the bottom corner with 9 of the 11 players touching the ball in the move.
The full time whistle couldn't come soon enough to draw a line under a shocking display by the Victory and may i add the referee who was also appauling. Shortly after the game Alex Rodgers decided to stand down as Manager and Secretary as the club look to turn their fortunes around with a fresh approach.
