Starlands welcomed Droitwich to play in The Cup.
We played well last week winning 5-1 but set some objectives this week of winning and trying to keep a clean sheet. We just about managed both this week - so Well Done Girls.
With a big squad The Cup allowed us to rotate a few players and look at some new partnerships especially in defence. Beth was away at a college open day and Stacey & Samantha kindly stood aside to allow others to get a run out.
The team is starting to gel and clearly the girls are bonding better with every week.
This week we were unfortunate not to have had a training session - but with myself away and Jenny taken ill last minute it seemed wiser to cancel.
Start land are being told every week to ensure they are first to the ball. It is especially important when teams have travelled to play and are half asleep. We certainly were the bright team for the first 15 minutes and could have been 3 or 4 up if not for a some good goalkeeping from The Droitwich keeper and some poor finishing. BIG Goals so DONT tap it straight at the keeper !
Our first chance fell to Olivia whose shot was saved by the keeper but there was no follow up.
Then a Header from amber to Georgia was passed to Kiera whose shot was deflected out for a corner.
a loose shot on the edge of the box by Leah fell to Olivia who made it 1-0 and gave us a little breathing space.
Starlands still could not make the most of their possession and domination...would we pay for it ??.
A Lovely flowing set of passes between Olivia and Georgia led to a weak header.
Hannah then played the ball through to Kiera but she took it wide and the angle forced her to shoot at the keeper and the ball was saved.
Starlands girls played it to Hannah who the hit post going Out for a corner !
Kiera then shot forcing a double save - brilliant!....but frustrating.
The Corner from Anna resulted in a header going just wide by Amber .great effort.
Then a cross from Droitwich , the winger had been tracked back by Amy and she did a sterling job of preventing a goal scoring opportunity.
Hannah then played in Olivia who shot at the keeper gaining a Corner.
Then Great tracking back - with Amber mounting a counter attack passing to Tia whose shot was saved. I was convinced she was going to score !
Kiera then crossed to Olivia who shot over.
The first half finished 1-0 with us dominating the game.
On display was some steady midfield play from Anna and great signs of Hannah's industry.
The defence albeit not busy did everything they needed to ...and Laurice and Chloe kept it simple clearing when required. Holly was very much an observer.
Second half
Shot from rhea from distance on the edge of the box.
Hannah to Ciara who joined the club and shot at the keeper!...
Then Hannah made it 2-0 testament to her never say die attitude and perseverance.
Kiera then skilfully dribbled and layer it off to Ciara who once again tamely shot ?...not the Ciara with a bullet shot we see at training...but getting ever closer !...the goals will come.
Kiera again to Ciara who took a snap shot saved by the keeper.
Chloe to Leah went out for a throw -but taken quickly caught Droitwich Kipping and then to Kiera , who toe poked it from distance in at the near post 3-0!
A Long range effort from Amy following a corner clearance went just over.Unlucky !...and if that had floated in it would have completed a great game.
Tia to Ciara was saved then the fourth came and what a goal.... From Tia a Worldy !!! 4-0
End of The Game and through to the next round.
Well done girls , a comprehensive performance that could have resulted in more goals.
Very pleasing was the clean sheet ....a good team effort from all.
Always things to work on....keeping our positions, making the pitch big and using the ball...oh and FINISHING !...ðŸÂ»
Girl of the game richly deserved - awarded to Amy Newman ...some good defending and kept the Droitwich star player quiet this week.
