It was a heavy downpour half an hour before kickoff and for the first time Team SESC calling Toa Payoh Stadium home.
The match was pre-agreed to play a full 90 minute game.
Last season saw Chelsea FCSG edged Team SESC out by 3 goals to 2 with Tim and Khaled hitting the net.
The game started with both teams struggling to settle into their game. There were many misplaced passes by both camps till a real opportunity was presented by the clever play on the right between Kelvin and Tim whom cross found Nadd lurking at the far end but he could not divert the ball into goal.
Kelvin then picked a loose ball from the keeper's throw, controlled it down, took a touch forward but his finishing let him down.
At 20th min, a little confusion in the penalty box presented Tim a chance and he slide the ball towards last season's SESC Golden boot winner, Simon Barker to strike the ball home, 1-0!
The game restarted and the Chelsea SG outfit tried to wrestle control of the game from the home team and did produce some neat exchanges in the midfield for a short spell.
Fahmy then brought on SESC's last season's Player of The Year in Derrick's place.
Then at 40th min, a buildup from their right wing caused a bit of problem when a striker picked up the lay-up and shoot on sight from just inside the box. Haffis saved it but the slippery ball bounced off him and presented a chance for an oncoming midfielder to lash home with a suspected high boot. There was also a foul cry by Boon who complained that he was unfairly challenged just before the ball was struck into the net. However the referee issued his first card of the day, a yellow to Boon for what seemed like his persistent complaint.
Just before the half comes to a close, Tim was found by Kelvin to have a shot at goal but his effort went over.
The gaffer made quite a few changes for the second half with Ronnie coming in goal for Haffis who was nursing a bruised hand. Yusuf coming in for Norman and Jun Kai in for Kelvin.
Chelsea SG got the second half started with a more purposeful control of the game and they too made a few changes during the interval.
There was a series of foul committed by Team SESC but they could not produce anything to harm Ronnie's goal.
At 60th min, Izat forced a mistake out from one of Chelsea SG's midfielder and sent Tim through on goal who looked up once and stroke the ball into the far corner of the net to resume Team SESC's lead.
From then on, it was Chelsea SG all the way with their entire midfield venturing up into the final third and tried to find gaps between Kok Hao and Roslan.
They won a couple of free kciks from the danger area but could not find the net.
However at 75th min they got their reward Chelsea SG's Hanx pick up the ball from their right midfielder and he took a touch to control the ball down before tucking the ball into the bottom left of Ronnie's goal.
The entire SESC camp were silenced but the gaffer replaced Simon with Joshua in the 80th min.
The Chelsea SG team continued attacking as they smelled blood and a real belief that they could steal 3 points away.
So a few crosses were sent in but could not find their men or got folded by Ronnie's aerial grasp.
Then came a really special moment;
Against the run of play, Team SESC's Jun Kai got the ball from a quick clearance and he cleverly toe-poked the ball between Chelsea SG's two defenders and found Yusuf!
Yusuf timed his run to perfection, dribbled across towards goal and found the keeper straying out of the goal. He then cheekily chipped the ball well cleared over the keeper's reach and bounced nicely into the net for absolutely delightful winner!
The Toa Payoh home lander whom were later interviewed said, "It was an intended pass, I asked Jun Kai to put the ball through the middle. No questions about being offside as there were 2 defenders behind me. I was confident I could beat them for pace".
Yusuf added, "The goal had lots of significance to me. My first ever goal for SESC, plus I scored it at my hometown. It being a last minute winner. I actually dreamt of being through on goal in a similar position the night before but I woke up before I could take a shot... Glad I could finish it in reality!"
Team SESC own MOTM is captain Kok Hao but Chelsea SG voted Matt Lennon instead. Matt himself on a league debut along with Roslan on the other side of the defence, gave nothng more than 200% with nothing but all of his tackles and ball challenges were spot on. Roslan started at right back but moved to his familiar central defence during second half. Impressive debut too for the 42-year old.
The Everton boys will next face Newcastle SG in two weeks time.
For now, they will keep having the wonder goals repeatedly running in their heads!
