This week we sent Dave "Alan Shearer" Kempshall
This week we travelled just a short distance to Swinefleet.
A great start to the match, well pre match, was when it dawned on one and all that we were going to have to travel with only 10 men. Everyone knows the story, enough said.
Moving on, optimism was running high, despite us only having 10 men. The game started at a not so fast pace, and upon reflection, stayed that way throughout the whole game. Despite us only having 10 men we battled hard and created some chances in the first half. Most notably Jim came close first with a half volley (which he probably should have done better with) and second with a close range header, in which he did well to loose his marker in the first place. The best chance of the first half fell to BJ who was put through by a raking long pass from Potso, only to just miss with an elegant side foot volley.
Swinefleet kept the ball but didn’t really ever look like creating too many chances. A hopeful ball in to the Scuns box around 30 minutes in to the first half, unfortunately found its way to the Swinefleet right winger, who, if he dressed in a red dressing gown and walked with a stick, wouldn’t look out of place with 4 turtles! The rat duly put the ball in the back of the net…
The first half ended without too much more to add……oh yeah…..other than swing and a miss Jim injuring his hamstring trying to kick the ball in to next week!
The second half was also much of a non event. A dubious penalty decision (not really too dubious) was given to Swinefleet, but slick back Jo (Swinefleet stricker) succumbed to the taunts of Matt M and Jim, who had replaced Kenny in goal due to his injury made a fine save.
From then on, Scuns showed their fighting spirit and had we taken the chances in the first half then we could have come away with a memorable victory. We were hampered by some poor referring but we have to draw on the positives. Despite the 10 men, a spirited performance was given by everyone on that pitch, and with that spirit moving us forward we should certainly claw our way out of relegation!
