6 of the best from RH helped them to forget last week’s crushing defeat, as the boys reacted with the perfect performance! Brockham enjoyed lots of possession in the early stages but never threatened AJ in the RH goal as the superb defence managed to keep the away side at bay. Then in the 13th minute, a quick ball from James Monk over the top, allowed Josh Pennicard to run through who after tangling the ball between his feet, managed to get a left footed shot away into the bottom corner to give RH the lead. After the first goal the game opened a little more and RH's midfield started to get a grip on the ball. Then in the 24th minute, another long pass this time by Jamie Pennicard, set Josh Pennicard away again who raced through and smashed the ball past the keeper into the top right hand corner. No more than 1 minute later followed the worst part of the game for RH as they completely switched off and allowed a long pass straight from kick off; to loop over the defence straight to a Brockham man in space who smashed the ball passed the oncoming keeper. Shortly after conceding a sloppy goal, RH grabbed another all be it fortuitous goal from Jamie Pennicard, who’s attempted cross looped over the keeper and into the top corner! 31 minutes now played and RH were cruising at 3-1. The first half went on to finish 3-1 thanks to the tireless work and determination throughout the team, especially from the Star Man of the game, Tim Donald.
The second half played out much like the first with Brockham enjoying lots of possession early on in the half with neither team really testing the keeper. But in the space of 15 minutes, RH would go on to put the match completely out of site. First of all a superb run from Tim Donald deep in his own half all the way to the oppositions box, opened up the opportunity for Craig Boxall to claim his first goal of the season. After running almost the entire length of the pitch, Tim managed to scramble the ball across the edge of the box for Boxall to coolly lash home with his left foot into the bottom corner. Soon after it was James Monk's turn to get on the score sheet, as a clever lifted ball from Josh Pennicard allowed James to beat the offside trap and eventually tap the ball home into an empty net once he had dispersed of the Brockham Keeper. With RH cruising at 5-1 there was still time for David Skingley to wrap the game up. Having been denied on a few occasions throughout the match, Dave finally got his thoroughly deserved goal after James Monk went on a teasing run from the right flight, cut inside and scrambled the ball across to Dave who was waiting to coolly slide the ball home into the bottom corner to finish off a great days work from RH Athletic.
After the game, Manager Josh Pennicard spoke of his delight about the heart and character his side showed throughout the whole game, which was matched by an intensity and determination which would help RH to win any game! He also challenged his side to bring that same intensity into their next match away to priory. Only time will tell if his squad are up to the challenge!!
