RH had to withstand a lot of pressure on saturday against redhill, but their superiority in defence shone through and 2 great finishes from Tim Donald followd by an own goal proved RH were the more clinical of the 2 sides.
Redhill began the game well testing RH's defence early with an onslaught of attacks, making it very difficult for the home side to get a grip on the ball in the early stages and the RH back 5 had to work really hard for the first 5 minutes to keep them at bay. As the game went on, the home side started to show a bit more quality going forward and threatened on a few occasions with the best chance falling to Tim Donald who managed to round the keeper but found is route to goal blocked by a number of defenders, and ended up dragging his shot wide. No less than 2 minutes later though, RH made the break through. A clever ball from Dave Skingley down the right hand side set Ben Woolnough away, who managed to beat the opposition left back and dribble his way up the right hand side. He then curled a right footed pass across the box to the feet of Tim who managed to shrug off the defender and coolly slide the ball past the keeper into the bottom left hand corner for his first goal of the season. Redhill once again started to dominate possession throughout the first half but failed to make any real clear cut chances, thanks to the superb work rate of the back 5. Tim would get one more chance in the first half, as a quick kick from AJ sent the striker clean through on goal. Tim managed to race in behind the defence and smash the ball towards goal only to be denied by the cross bar. There were no other real chances for either side in the first half as the whistle soon blew for half time, RH leading 1-0 at the break.
The second half played out much like the first with Redhill continuing to dominate possession without ever really testing the home side. RH continued to hit on the counter and not long into the second half they got a second. A quick break from Tim saw him brought down just outside the area to give RH a free kick in a dangerous position. Craig Boxall stepped over the free kick and curled a low shot into the bottom right hand corner only to be denied by Redhill’s keeper. However, Tim Donald reacted quicker than anyone and managed to tap the ball home from 5 yards to give RH a comfortable 2-0 lead. Eventually the home side went on to add a third once again from a free kick as Jamie Pennicard curled a dangerous ball into the box, only to be headed into his own net by the oncoming Redhill defender, giving RH a 3-0 lead with just over 10 minutes to go.
What followed was another onslaught of attacks from the opposition as they desperately went in search of a way back into the match, only to be repeatedly denied by RH's defence and AJ in the RH goal who was on top form throughout the whole match. The away side turned up the pressure and came very close to scoring from a long throw which was controlled on the chest and hit first time with a bicycle kick, only to be denied by the post and AJ was on hand with a fantastic save to deny Redhill from the rebound. Redhill did finally manage to beat the inform AJ when RH switched off for a few seconds and allowed a pass to slip through the defence and a slow tame shot bobbled passed the keeper into the bottom corner to give Redhill a consolation goal for their hard work. The game finished 3-1 to the home side.
