Basingstoke Labour Club FC 2-3 Pure Spartan FC (Peter Raynbird Cup)
Both Clubs marked the anniversary of the passing of former BLCFC Manager Geoff Poulter with a minutes silence prior to the kick off which was very well respected by both teams. The game got under way in a competitive manner with tackles flying in all over the Place but it was labour who had the better share of the early stages as Pure struggled to get their passing rhythm going and were restricted to long balls. Labour had a couple of half chances through Liam Hartley and Pure Spartan also had a couple through Dave Ratcliff (who also messi esque skinned a few labour players before being calously hacked down) ( I was 100% going to run through their whole team and score ;) I WISH) and Chris Dobbie and Anton Medford who mis
sed a guilt edged 1 on 1. Despite the chances the first half ended 0-0.
In the second Half Pure found their Rhythm and started dominate possession from the off. This early pressure proved decisive as Chris Dobbie rose above the labour keeper to head home! The game stayed the same with Pure dominating play but in their attempts to extend the lead Labour caught them on the break and a long ball found Darren Heron who turned Dave Ratcliff and Paul Drake inside out so bad guts were on show leaving their twisted up bodies in a heap on top of each other (it was a bit like bambi on ice) With the score at 1-1 Gaffer signalled to the bench for emergency plan B Unleashing the injured Rossi Mortlock onto tiring labour legs! The sub had immediate effect as straight from Kick off Rossi skinned 4 players before being brought down and earning a free kick. A few minutes later Super Sub Mortlock released Anton Medford down the right who smashed the ball across goal for Dobbie to tap home his 2nd of the game and 11th of the season! 5minutes later Rossi Mortlock not to be left out Scored a solo effort even performing some kind of Irish river dance in front of the labour keeper before slotting the ball home. Labour got a very late 2nd after a mistake at the back by Dan Willis played Darren Heron onside to score his second.
Donkeys of the day (or should I say Bambi's) Dave Ratcliff and Paul Drake who are still collecting their organs from the pitch and turning their skin the right way round.
Man Of The Match was given to Craig Mugford but i'd also like to add Rossi Mortlock to that list for his immediate impact when coming on. (Even though he does have a 'David Haye' excuse for not starting.....
