Future Steps 1 – 6 PGS Global

20/11/2011

PGS continued their revival with a more than convincing victory against bottom of the table Future Steps. The victory only raises one question, how did we only manage a draw against these last week?

It took only 15 minutes for PGS to open there account for the morning, a shot from outside the penalty area by Luke B found the bottom left hand corner and put the team into a deserved lead. The 2nd wasn’t far behind, a through ball from Man of the Match Paddy, returning to the middle of the park, played in Nick Long to calmly slot past an on rushing keeper, his 3rd goal in 6 games this season. Gaz Jolly was more like a spectator in the 1st half with very little to do, and, despite a comfortable half with a number of half chances 2-0 was the score at the interval.

PGS know, more than any, how a comfortable lead at half time can change quickly so it was important to keep switched on and focused to ensure this didn’t happen again. And, luckily the 3rd goal of the morning settled nerves. A ball laid through by Nick was met by Luke B again who hit with the outside of the right foot, beating the outstretched keeper, 3-0 to the Globes!!!! Luke managed to grab his 3rd of the morning and 5th of the season shortly after, a cross from the left hand side was spilled by their sizeable keeper leaving Luke with a simple tap in, the 1st hatrick of the season for the team.

The only disappointing aspect of the morning was a poor referee who seemed unable to notice the constant shirt pulling and physicality of a number of Future Steps players but was able to give a more then questionable penalty to the opponents midway through the 2nd half when a ball, being shielded well by Mike Donaghy, was deemed to be a foul by the ref. The penalty was slotted past Jolly in goal, 4 – 1.

A double substitution at this point saw the introduction of Martin Hands (for Luke B) and Greg Bramwell (or Mike Donaghy). This meant moving Del up front. And it didn’t take long for the tactical change to work, a 40 yard defence splitting ball from Paddy dropped to the feet of Martin who crossed well for Del to slot away number 5 for the afternoon and wrap up the points for the Globes. Del’s 8th of the season wasn’t far behind, another goal keeping error left him with an easy tap in.

With a tricky fixture against high flying Lion of Judah next weekend it will be interesting to see if this good run of results will be extended to 4 games.
