7s vs St Josephians (Jermaine Whyte,Matt Ring,Will Knox)
After the confidence boosting extra time win the week before the 7s were back at home after 3 weeks on the road looking for their first 3pts of the season.
Before we got started we had a scramble for 11 players due to the lateness of Paul Taylor (standard) and the gaffer (heard him before we saw him) and the swapping of the kit with some random team on another pitch to help them out with a kit clash in their game but eventually we got going in our new colours of White and blue (very comfy).
It was hard to know what the opo were like as they have only had the one league game this season in a one nil win against a team we were yet to face. As they were a 1st team we expected a tough test. The early exchange was mostly in their favour but with Joe as solid as usual between the posts keeping them at bay.
We started to get a grip on the game after 20 mins and started to create some of our own chances but not testing their keeper enough. Omar and Ringo were looking lively up front with Jermaine and Dan doing well on the flanks and the back four with the help of Taylor and Ben limiting the opo’s chances. At HT we knew we had the beating of them as we finished the half the stronger but were not creating enough chances.
Second half was close for the first 10-15 mins but we managed to get a hold of the game and finally made the breakthrough when Ringo teamed up with Jermaine who found himself one on one with the keeper, somehow dummied himself and the keeper and was left with an empty net to poke it in. Josephians came back at us and created a couple of ½ chances and nearly scored from a set piece but for Lionel who was introduced at ½ time managed to chest it away (then went back to arguing with anyone that tried to speak to him, it’s all part of the 7s package. We like to call it getting value for money). That was a game decider and we kicked on from there.
Our second came from a controversial free kick on the left hand side. Ben ‘Tom Daley’ Eklof was judged to have been fouled and a superb free kick from Dan found Will leaping at the back post. WTF,we are winning two nil, this never happens. It got better, we managed to score again. This time Ringo was rewarded for his tireless work, not just in this game but season to date with his first of the season, a lovely controlled finish confirmed our first 3 pts of the season and up to 4th in the table. We face Old Tenisonians this week again at home so with our confidence up we will go into this looking for another 3pts.
Didn’t take a vote for MOM but as he is off travelling for a few weeks, scored one and was superb down the right all game the reporters MOM goes to Will Knox.
Ps – who do I speak to about Dusty illegally tapping up some of our players??
