Match Report

The 7s match was put in peril after some plonker decided to use rubble to line the goals as a replacement for the more goalkeeper-friendly sand, but after some great excavation work from both teams the match went ahead 45 minutes later than scheduled.

There were few chances in the first half worth noting – the only real one being a penalty after Omar was clattered from behind inside the box. However, a certain someone was unable to convert and the keeper pulled off a decent save to deny us a goal before the break. Back at the Meads’ end of the pitch, 7s were lucky not to concede after a scramble from a corner resulted in a well-hit volley from the Royal Sun Alliance Skip. Not to worry, Ben managed to head the ball away from just in front of the goal-line (Paul Taylor probably had it covered anyway). Meads went in at halftime being the stronger team and probably should have been leading.

We started the second half as we had ended the first - pressing well all over the pitch, and Mark did great in managing to slip the ball to Omar who was left with a 1-on-1 with the keeps. A cheeky dink could only be brushed by the keeper as the ball fell into the net (the keeper made it look better than it was). A second goal was soon to follow as the ball fell to Jermaine 30 yards out, who opened up his foot and in a fifa-like fashion finessed the ball over the helpless keeper and into the net – probably wins goal of the game. After RSA had restarted the game Meads were piling on the pressure again and a great cross from the right found Whelan but he was unable to direct his header goalwards.

10 minutes to go and by now it was getting seriously dark – the only real chance RSA had was a shot from long range but Rob managed to save spectacularly onto the bar. Meads then added another 2 goals to their tally in quick succession. The third came after great work from Ringo who managed to square the ball to Ben in the middle of the box who finished low into the corner. The fourth followed after a knock-down from Omar which fell to Ringo and after his first shot was saved, he ‘expertly’ slotted the second bite of the cherry into the open net. One weird geeze on the other team felt the need to roar a rallying war-cry every few minutes but it wasn’t enough to inspire RSA into any sort of comeback. As the game came to a close Jack was crunched from either side by 2 frustrated RSA players and let everyone know how he felt about it with a rather high pitched cry of dismay (In his defense he was probably still traumatised from Lionel telling him he was his Daddy for the day), but the resulting free kick came to nothing and the ref blew for full time.

Another good win for 7s who go top of the league for now. MOTM goes to emergency loanee Mark, who had a great game in central midfield and even demonstrated his excellent ear-nibbling abilities on one of the oppo players whilst Meads were defending a corner – whatever floats your boat mate.
