LVS Hassocks tasted defeat in an astonishing match against Frewen College. A match full of action and goals ended controversially as deep deep into stoppage time Frewen grabbed a winner to make it 6-5.
Hassocks found themselves 1-0 down after some slack marking allowed Frewen to score from a throw in. As the game settled Hassocks started to get more on top of the game with Lee Tarron particular flying down the right wing in good form.
A reverse pass from Kynan Wright played in Tarron who unfortunately couldn’t find a finish to compliment the pass. Frewen countered as a result and hit both the cross bar and post in quick succession.
Frewen grew in confidence and pegged Hassocks back, with an inspired Joe Bedding looking like he will not concede any more saving several one on ones. Hassocks capitilised when Frewen conceded possession on the halfway line thanks to some good pressing by Lee Tarron who played a through ball for Kynan Wright to round the keeper and bury the equaliser 1-1.
An in form Lee Tarron once again played through Kynan Wright who wss foiled by the Frewen goal keeper once more. As half time approached Hassocks have got a grip after a shaky start and were looking composed and confident on the ball.
Half Time: Frewen College 1-1 LVS Hassocks FC
The first 10 minutes of the second half was a scrappy affair. Hassocks were looking dis-jointed and found themselves 4 quick goals down in 3 minutes. 2 were from long distance and got caught in the wind sailing and swerving all over the place. One was a well worked passing move by Frewen.Their fifth goal came from some stray passing from Hassocks. 5-1 to Frewen.
It looked like it would be a long coach journey back to LVS for the players in purple. It didn’t take long before Hassocks put that spell behind them and started to regain the passing and composure of the first half. A goal mouth scramble in the Frewen box, finished with William Dunne side footing home. Was an Arsenal like comeback on the cards?
Joe Bedding in the Hassocks goal saved well at the feet of a Frewen striker and played a drop kick to relieve pressure. CharlieRies-Coward then played it through to Kynan who hammered the ball into the top corner. 5-3.
Frewen started to get a hold of the ball and retained possession well. Charlie Ries- Coward though was closing down well and with a one touch tackle/pass he freed Liam Pope who played a through ball for Kynan Wright who rounded the Frewen keeper and passed the ball into the empty net. 5-4.
The game turns into an end to end affair with Hassocks pushing for that elusive equaliser and Frewen looking to re-establish a clear cushion. Kynan Wright picked the ball up on the halfway line and danced through Frewen before hammering the ball wide. Was that the golden chance gone?
A goal kick landed at the feet of Kynan Wright on the halfway line, once again Kynan danced through the Frewen defence before making amends with a screaming finish. 5-5.
Once more the game turned into an end to end scrap with both teams pressing for the win. Liam Pope picked up the ball from Charlie and walked past the Frewen midfield before unleashing an unstoppable 25 yard shot….unfortunately the wind took it just wide of the post.
A loose ball is struck aimlessly and hopefully by Frewen from 25 yards and this one catches the wind and sails over Joe Beddings head. 6-5 to Frewen. What a game.
