This was a record win for Chet, their previous best results being 6 - 0 victories against Shire Oak Saints and Paradise Lounge in April 2009 and May 2009.
Before anyone gets carried away they must understand this game was played in atrocious weather conditions and Chet had a stroke of luck in that a change of wind direction resulted in them receiving assistance throughout both halves of this match.
Additionally, and without taking anything away from our very sporting and hard working visitors, the opposition was not the strongest we will meet this year.
Chet kept up their unwanted run of falling behind in every competitive game played this year; a goalmouth scramble following a corner saw Forresters take a 3rd minute lead.
Thereafter it was all Chet; Ryan Tait hammered a header against the crossbar whilst a cross cum shot from the same player suffered the same fate.
Chet were dominant in the air and the equaliser came in the 19th minute when Ryan Tait rose majestically to convert a Gavin Horsfall cross from the left. Six minutes later he doubled his tally by despatching another header this time from Craig Black’s right wing cross.
Dan Lowndes provided the third headed goal of the day after 32 minutes; he was quickest to react as the keeper parried out a Ryan Tait shot.
In the 38th minute Adam Hawkins sent a crisp pass through to Jon Mayer who made no mistake from the edge of the penalty area.
Sam Cotter was introduced at half time and scored with his first touch as Chet went 5 - 0 up within 30 seconds of the restart. This was a good team move which ended with Ryan Tait setting up the chance.
Tait was involved again in the 70th minute; his shot came back off the post and fell to Jon Mayer who scored with ease.
One minute later the first hat trick of the season went to Ryan Tait who took a through ball from Jon Mayer in his stride and slotted home from 15 yards.
The final goal of the game was scored by Stuart Talbot who was 40 yards out when he received the ball from Steve Bailey; Stuart looked up, steadied himself and placed the ball perfectly to register this year’s longest strike to date.
Dan Lowndes impervious midfield performance won him the man of the match award.
There were many positives to take out of this game, which is always welcome. However it would be wrong not to mention the one downside that is blighting our season which is that once again we fell behind early in the game; our failure to keep clean sheets against lesser teams needs to be addressed.
