Launton Athletic smashed 11 goals without reply in a sensational performance.Manager Lucas-Howells didn’t stop praising the boys in the obligatory ‘all afternoon’ de-brief and between smiling and quenching his thirst said ‘to a man that was the best performance I’ve seen them play, absolutely superb’.
Athletic hit six in the first half and five in the second. The game could have had a very different complexion when the opposition started in a lively manner and broke into the Athletic half early doors, before sending a fierce shot towards the Athletic goal.In what should be a nervy moment, a calm and assured Chaston set the tone for the day with a fine save.
From then on, it was a procession.A feast of football delight.Attitude and aptitude were spot on.The passing, technique and discipline that the boys showed was superb.Whatever the boys had for breakfast, the managers request that the parents please replicate it in subsequent weeks.
As the score line suggests, the match was played mostly in the opposition half.In the interests of time, space and effort, the goals are quickly summarised at the bottom of the page.
When every player is brilliant, it’s not easy to pick a man match, and never easy writing it up when you’re related, but Josh Barrett was simply unplayable. Two goals and five assists, covered huge ground and terrorised the opposition defence and midfield.Ball utilisation and decision making were also nearly faultless.
An away game this Saturday can’t come soon enough. Let’s see if we can keep up that level of performance. It was genuinely a joy to watch!
