A long range effort from Harry won this nerve racking encounter, against a highly skilled Newcastle City Celtic side. This win means it keeps us in with a shout of winning the title. Bedlington lead on 16 points played 6 Then Celtic on 13pts played 7 then we are on 12 points played 6.
First quarter and Celtic started much the brighter, silky passing football had us in trouble, and it was against the run of play when we took the lead, Sam's long shot along the ground went through the keepers hands, and Sam following up was there to calmly place the ball into the net. Celtic continued to press, as we were a little hesitant in defence. But right at the end of the quarter we got a second, straight long kick from Aaron found its way to Elliott who finished nicely, to give us a rather flattering 2-0 lead.
A beautifully worked goal involving some lovely passing got Celtic back into the game straight away at the start of the second quarter, nothing we could have done about it. We did though start to get more into the game in this quarter, with some nice passing football in midfield, and Sam was causing them plenty of problems playing in the striker position. The pressure finally paid when Elliott found himself in space in the box, and he place the ball into the net for a very nicely taken goal. At the back Josh, James, Harry & Aaron were under a lot of pressure but managed to keep them at bay.
Third quarter and we scored from the kick off, Joseph passed to Elliott then went to Sam who then found Elliott who finished expertly again for a lovely team goal and another hat-trick for the skipper. This made it 4-1 but then we had our usual third quarter wobble again, Celtic getting a goal back when a long shot bounced and managed to evade Aaron. This gave them plenty of confidence and some hesitant defending in the penalty area, led to Celtic pouncing and their player finishing nicely. At the other end Elliott, Sam & Taylor, only had a few half chances. 4-3 Guide Post end of third
Final quarter and they hit us again early on, with again another well worked goal, but rather than give up, we stepped up our game, and started to have the better of the chances, a long well taken Elliott free kick caused problems in the Celtic area, and Harrys shot was saved by the keeper and then Harry's rebound effort hit the post and came out. With this we thought our chance had gone, but with just one minute left on the clock, a blocked shot came out to Harry well outside the box, and he struck a lovely effort and with the help of a deflection, the ball sailed into the top of the net. Harry then must get the prize for the best goal celebration of the season, nice to see something different. There was still drama left in the last 30 seconds, great teamwork from the Celtic boys led to their player through on goal in the penalty area looking ready to shoot, but then came in one of the tackles of the season, Joseph sliding in and taking the ball and the attacker out, excellent brave tackle. We managed to keep the corner out, and the referee blew time, much to the joy of the team who celebrated in style.
After getting a four one beating from the same opponents early in the league campaign it was good to see such a positive reaction today, and although we were under a lot of pressure for much of the game, we did keep going to the final whistle, which is what we asked for from the players before the start of the game.for his excellent finishing and general great play Elliott was the man of the match, his goals today took him to the 30 goals mark for the season. It was a gutsy all round team performance, so well done to all!
