Greensleeves didn't need to get out of second gear as they dismantled Chapman Freeborn.
The pattern for the match was set in the very first minute. Barely 30 seconds had passed when a Freeborn midfielder mis-controlled the ball, first with his foot and then with his hand. The ref didn't spot this but it was not to matter. Matt rushed in to nick the ball away, rounded the last defender and fired home.
1-0.
Sam missed a great chance to double the lead when Matt pulled the ball back to him. He was only a few yards out but the 'keeper made himself big and saved.
The lead was doubled a few minutes later when Matt collected a good pass from Sam to strike home. 2-0.
Greensleeves continued to create chances in the first half, without playing particularly well. One superb team move ended when Sam played a beautiful flick into the path of Matt, who dragged a poor shot wide.
Half time came, and it was 2-0, but certainly should have been more.
Greensleeves wasted no time increasing their lead in the second hald. Dave played a good one two with Matt. His pace took him away from the defence and his finish left the keeper with no chance. 3-0.
More chances came and went before Greensleeves secured a fourth. It came in a more direct fashion. Sam's long ball was taken down beautifully by Matt, who controlled it and turned the last defender in one motion before slotting home. 4-0.
The pressure continued. Dave had a presentable chance on the volley but managed to hit is so far over it was in danger of leaving the earth's atmosphere.
Josh had 3 shots in about 4 seconds but was thwarted by a combination of the keeper and defenders. It was not to be the boys in Green the scored next, however.
In the main, Greensleeves had defended very well, with Josh, Sam and Dave snuffing out most attacks with relative ease. Chapman Freeborn had failed to muster even a half-chance all match, but scored a goal after some woeful defending. Their smallest, and possibly worst player managed to bundle his way past 3 challenges. The ball broke to another Freeborn player who tapped in. Eddie had no chance, and the clean sheet was lost. This was somewhat unfair on Eddie whose distribution was excellent throughout. 4-1.
There was still time to add some gloss to the scoreline. When the Freeborn 'keeper came out to intercept the ball, you would have expected him to clear. Strangely though, he decided to dribble forward. This was an ill-advised decision given his extremely limited football ability. Matt tackled him and ran towards goal. Freeborn managed to get defenders behind the ball, but Matt played a simple pass to Josh, who had no trouble stroking the ball past the defender on the line. 5-1.
The final whistle sounded shortly after, and Greensleeves must now focus on their next game against Tryards. 3 points and promotion will be in touching distance.
STAT OF THE MATCH: Dave has scored in every match this season
MAN OF THE MATCH: Could have been Matt or Sam for their attacking contributions. Sam just edges it. He needs a MOM award as his name is not likely to appear on the score sheet any time soon.
