GREAT win chaps. Cant stand watching normally, but that was a joy. You actually put into practice what you talked about at half time, ie put a foot on it and build up some attacks. Amazballs !

cheers

Official report:

Two straight defeats thus far in a season barely begun. New helmsman desperate for a win. PEM, our leader led by example and on an afternoon when the sun shone and the old adversaries Stepping lined up against us, expecting, I think to win, the Grappenhall boys delivered a gutsy victory for our much loved leader. A couple of returning faces to bolster the spirits, and plenty of gusto amongst the ever present. No Mecrow. A vital cog, a lynch pin no less. Bradders and PEM took the centre half positions with Cookie one side and cookie boy the other. Midfield responsibility handed to Tommo and Quent, flank work by Leight and Eales with the smooth unflusterable Richard down the middle ably assisted by 'Fire and brimstone' Hout. A strong bench too. Will Norm and Tok. We took it to them. Plenty of movement and flair, some neat passwork but no real chances. They didn't have much. No real threat and anything that did get through was nicely tidied up by the impressive Martin. A goalie now in his stride and looking magnificent if I may say so. We got the first goal. Couldn't tell you who got it but it was probably set up by some selfless running on the part of Norm and slotted away by Richard or Hout. Norm was full of it all afternoon. Running into the space and seldom getting any service. Not a flicker of complaint though. Hout with pace to burn and a desire to win, chasing harrying and closing. Sliding in and assisting the mid-fielders who in that first half got the upper hand and turned the screw. A super chance squandered by Eales heading wide from 2 yards out following an exquisite curling ball in by Leight. We were on the front foot. Half time and changes needed. Saint Cookie pulled a hamstring and will have to place his healing hands upon himself, Bradders (great half) tweeked a groin and limped off, but like a vision from the heavens above Aaron Jones sauntered up and was willing to give us a master-class in centre half play. Also arriving late was Man of the match junior, Dr Who like in his ability to manipulate time. With the ball at his feet the world slows down, he can look up, take a touch thread a ball. He can win it back too and jump like a mosher. awesome. Anyway enough. We got a second. Don't know how it came about, probably from some selfless running by Norm and slotted in by Richard or Hout. Either way we were two nil up and feeling very good about ourselves thank you very much. They made some changes and brought on a cookie muncher of their own. Rotund chap, nice touch. You wouldn't have bet against 'our Aaron' though in a one on one and no one was more surprised than Jonesy himself when he was out muscled and the round one scored. 2:1. Never a good score for the Grappenhall boys that, but before you knew it, before you had a moment to contemplate what might be, we got our third and restored the two goal advantage. I don't know who got it but it was probably as a result of some selfless running by Norm and slotted home by Richard or Hout. Or it might have been Wills screamer because he got a beauty today too. They pressed on and looked good value too. Plenty of time in our box, plenty of corners and plenty of opportunity for PEM and Aaron to show their class. What did get through, and there wasn't much, was cleared up with aplomb by our number 1. A booking, some late challenges, a bit of rolling around, a little bit of shouting, nothing too worrying and then a magnificent fourth for the home team. I remember this one. Counter attacking at it's best. Will plays a beautiful ball to Norm who runs and runs and pulls the defenders wide, Richard and Hout chase after him, down the middle and one of them slots home a deft pass from the selfless one and the worlds a brighter place. 4:1. Their heads went down and we walked it home. A magnificent performance from the home team. All putting it in. We were the better team. We wanted it more and we rightly won. Yes Junior was their Man of the match. He stood out for his touch and Brummie class. But Quent was mine. None stop action, running and spoiling and chasing and harrying and trying and trying and running and trying. Never beaten. Our talisman. So one for you PEM. You deserve it. Thanks for taking us all on and putting yourself out so we can enjoy our Sunday sojourns. Icing provided by Richard (2) Hout (1) and Will (1) See you next Sunday
