Looking to bounce back from last weeks deserved reversal at home to Raynes Park, the Croygas juggernaut continued apace, this time away to Ironside and the Glynn School Sports Ground. Stern words were exchanged in the changing room prior to the game about the importance of rectifying the mistakes of last week. Croygas started with their usual 4-4-2 formation with Aiden in goal, back 4 of Sam, Dave B, Reeno and Bradders, a midfield of Jim, Dave R, Matt and Adam with Reiss and Zib (James) up front. On the bench was Ken (standard), stranger jordan (not looking that tanned despite claiming to have been on holiday) and our European import Ach. It proved to be a difficult start for Croygas with Ironside getting on top early doors, especially through the right winger and the attributes of their centre forward. This left Croygas under the cosh and not seeing much of the ball. The pressure told when after about 15-20 mins a free kick for Ironside was whipped in and the Gas defence stood motionless as the aforementioned centre forward walked into the empty penalty area and stuck the ball away for 1-0. This did begin to kick Croygas into gear and a number of promising situations developed without reward for a combination of poor decision making & ution. This was until a free kick from Reeno enticed the Ironside keeper off of his line to completely miss the ball and leave Rambo with the task of heading the ball in which he gleefully accepted. Back at 1-1 and in the ascendancy Croygas were looking to press home their advantage, this was until it was time to concede the customary weekly penalty which put Ironside back in front. 2-1 down and half time, but the mood was good in the camp as the had been in control of the game after the first 15 mins. Croygas began the 2nd half in dominant fashion, denying Ironside any space and cutting the supply line to their main threats. Adam then played a ball into no mans land behind the defence (something I am sure as the editor of this site he will give himself an assist for), one of the defenders made a bit of a hash of it, this allowed Reiss to pounce, turning the defender inside and out (clearly worried of Dave catching up his goal tally) and unleashed a rocket of a left footer from about 25 yards that went in off the far post. A superb goal. Shortly afterwards it was 3-2 as Rambo's daisy cutter from 25 yards somehow went straight through the keeper and in. Croygas continued to control the game and bar one hairy moment from a Dave B back header saw the game through with minimal fuss to secure a hard fought and well deserved victory.
