This can only be described as a game of two halves!
The first, although we were dominant, was error-strewn. St Mary’s had two shots both created by our sloppiness, which Jimbo managed to save. Sooner or later these mistakes will catch up with us and we will not be able to pull it back. We also had goal opportunities that we failed to accept either due to fantastic keeping or by lack of composure. We were creating chances but we weren’t putting them away. St Mary’s didn’t look as strong as they had in previous seasons and this seemed to come as a shock to us. We got to half time 0-0, which was a travesty as there was only one team that looked capable of winning.
Needless to say there were some strong words spoken in the players ears because we could never be happy with the situation we found ourselves in. To their credit the players took on board what was said and applied it, to go effect, in the second half.
The difference in class and ability was confirmed with the scoreline at the end being 4-0, through two goals by Pablo and one each from Richard and an individual Jason ‘special’. The goals were all created from flowing passing movements and great workrate, all elements that were sadly lacking in the first half.
The squad is shaping up nicely with players coming in and seamlessly replacing those that leave the field. It is going to be a tough decision to pick squads, let alone teams, this season. As a management team we are asking for patience and understanding from all the players in the squad. You won’t agree with all the decisions we make just as we won’t agree with all the passes you try to make. All we ask is that you understand that we, like you, have the best interests of Clarendon at heart. If you have an issue with any choices we make we will, respectfully, discuss them with you.
