Tommy Woodward says: A good result today against a decent side. We still haven't managed to get out of first gear yet but we sparkled in front of both goals. Rumour was that a few Champions players had doubted Pablo's (Everton Morrison) influence in a game, but I think he proved his critics wrong today. Pablo showed us all how to finish in front of goal with some excellent strikes. But the real star of the attacking show was Jason Greene. He ran the Champion's defence into the ground and showed what a quality player he is.
We had to shuffle the midfield as Laurie Cunningham was injured. I only lasted 5 mins of the game so it was a first outing for Moses and Lee Roberts in the centre, but they both did a good job. Matt, Roger, Craig and Daley cleaned up everything Champions had to throw at them, limiting Champions to one shot on goal all game.
We still aren't playing as well as we could be but there are signs of us getting back to our best. We started slow last season dropping points that eventually cost us the title. This season we have started slow again but haven't dropped a point. We have lost a few players, three of them influential, but have gained two quality players in Laurie and the infamous Jamie Hunter. We also have two Clarendon old boys, Moses and Big Mark returning that has given the squad a boost. We will be up there again when it comes to handing out the medals but the sooner we get out of first gear the better.
Shawn Devonport adds: Well, we went into today's game believeing we could win after giving Clarendon a good game last year but today was totally different and we were outplayed. Clarendon took the lead when Everton Morrison slipped in and it was soon 2-0 when a great team move lead to Everton's second. We had hit the post at 1-0 and had that gone in it may have been a different game but it wasn't to be, 2-0 half time.
Second half we went for it as it was the Cup and went 3-4-3 but it was our undoing. We went close with a few free kicks but that was it and Clarendon were playing some superb football and Everton Morrisson helped himself to another two and Jason Greene got one for himself with a fine solo goal. Clarendon were outstanding today and their manager said they would have beaten anyone on today's performance and I have to agree, they were up for it and wanted it way more than us and their football was fantastic going forward whilst being solid at the back.
For us the lack of fight was disapointing and we didn't really show up with our big players going missing and defensively we never really knew where to turn but some credit for that must go to the brilliant Clarendon front line.
