Away cup match played on 02 March 2025.
Kicked off at 1:00 PM

In a thrilling cup encounter at the Ekco Sports Ground on 2nd March 2025, Bowers & Pitsea U14 Whites emerged victorious against Corinthians Youth U14 Blue with a final score of 2-1. The match kicked off at 1:00pm, and the 60-strong crowd witnessed a display of skill and determination from both sides, but it was the Whites who secured their place in the next round of the competition.

Bowers & Pitsea lined up in a dynamic 3-4-3 formation, designed to maximise their attacking potential while maintaining a solid defensive structure. Stanley Martin-Gardener took his position in goal, shielded by a back three consisting of Marcus Stanbury in the centre, flanked by Oliver Norton on the right and Sebastian Cenciu on the left. The midfield was anchored by Cory Jennings and Jack McCullim in central roles, with Benjamine Smith operating on the right and Luca Cepoi on the left, providing width and support to the forwards. Up front, Mattie Bristow, Marvellous Nbubueze, and Lewis Baber formed a potent attacking trio, each tasked with pressing the opposition and converting chances into goals. The substitutes for the match included Freddy Partner, Oliver Wakeling, Harry Fairchild and James Holgate.

The match began with an electric start, as Bowers & Pitsea took the lead just four minutes in. Marvellous Nbubueze capitalised on a well-placed cross from Lewis Baber, tapping the ball in from close range to give his side an early advantage. The Whites looked to build on their momentum, controlling possession and pressing high up the pitch.

As the first half progressed, Bowers & Pitsea maintained their dominance, with the midfield trio of Jennings, McCullim, and Smith linking up effectively. However, Corinthians Youth began to find their rhythm, pushing forward in search of an equaliser. Despite their efforts, the Bowers defence held firm, and the first half concluded with the scoreline intact at 1-0.

The second half saw Bowers & Pitsea continue to assert their authority, and they doubled their lead in the 55th minute. Benjamine Smith found the net after a goalmouth scramble, again assisted by the ever-influential Lewis Baber, who delivered another precise cross. The Whites were now in a commanding position, leading 2-0.

However, the match took a turn shortly after, as Corinthians Youth responded with urgency. In the 60th minute, a yellow card was issued to the opposition for violent conduct, a sign of their growing frustration. Shortly thereafter, Bowers & Pitsea made a tactical substitution, bringing on Mattie Bristow for Benjamine Smith.

The game became increasingly tense as Corinthians Youth finally broke through in the 65th minute, scoring a tap-in from close range to reduce the deficit to 2-1. This goal injected new life into the match, with the visitors now pushing for an equaliser.

In the 63rd minute, Bowers & Pitsea were forced to make another substitution due to injury, with Oliver Wakeling replacing Lewis Baber, who had been instrumental in the attacking play. The Whites then made a further change in the 67th minute, bringing on James Holgate for Mattie Bristow, as they sought to maintain their lead amidst the mounting pressure.

As the final whistle approached, Bowers & Pitsea held on resolutely, defending their slender lead against a determined Corinthians Youth side. The match concluded with the Whites celebrating a hard-fought 2-1 victory, securing their place in the next round of the cup and showcasing their resilience and teamwork throughout the encounter. Marvellous Nbubueze's performance earned him the accolade of Player of the Match, a testament to his crucial contributions in attack.
