Match Report by Hulk and Patto:
A midweek evening proved the wrong time to play Notts Medics B as they massacred a strong Boots squad on the University 3G pitch to claim their first win of the season. Calling on several players from their ‘A’ team (who are top of Division One by a mile) and missing the usual hangovers, the Medics were an energetic, quick and ruthless opposition who dominated the ball for almost all of the game and exploited the space granted to them in midfield and behind the Boots defence. The first half ended 5-1, with a slow-starting Boots conceding in regular intervals as Medics won most of the loose balls and controlled midfield, while Boots failed to retain possession. A brief fightback towards the end of the half ended with Rich’s cross/shot from the right being blocked by a defender’s hand in the area; Ross calmly dispatched the penalty into the bottom right corner to give Boots some respite.
The first 20 minutes of the second half were much more even as Boots tried to close down the ball and force play, but chances were thin on the ground as shots in the final third couldn’t be fashioned as Luke was overwhelmed by the defenders, and Medics finally began hitting on the break to extend their lead against the tiring Boots team. A second consolation came towards the end of the match when Simon controlled a poor clearance from their keeper, and played the ball to Chibbert on the edge of the area, who fed Christian on the right for an accurate finish into the far left corner.
Chibbert picked up Man of the Match for his work rate, assist and most importantly of all, his attitude (which was excellent).
Overall there’s not a lot that can be taken from this game against an opposition who were considerably better on the day than most teams in our league, so let’s put it to bed and concentrate on getting 6 points on Sunday in the double header...!
