Boots were sent to a cruel 4-0 defeat at the hands of Caythorpe this Sunday, with their inability to deal with corners being the ultimate downfall and the direct cause for 3 of the 4 goals, making the next few weeks even more important prior to Christmas!
Although Nottingham experienced rainfall of biblical proportions the week before, the pitch was in a great condition and there was never any doubt about the game being called off. The match started as a close affair, with Boots at times getting the ball down and passing well, but also still giving a number of long aimless passes that left Bally playing the lone striker up front role with a lot of chasing to do. At the back Dan and Brett seemed to be building a strong partnership alongside Matt and Chris either side, and Frumpy was off his line smartly to deal with any throughballs. In fact I don’t remember any chances of note before Boots were 1-0 down. A corner caused havoc in the box and when it was finally half-cleared their player was able to volley the ball past a number of Boots players and into the net. The second also came from a corner; a deep cross to the back post found their player free, and his header came back into the danger area where a Caythorpe player was able to head in from 2 yards. The only notable chance of the first half for Boots fell to Crozier, who was put through by Bally but dragged his shot wide.
So Boots were 2-0 down in a game of little chances either end at half time, and Pete made 3 changes; Simon, Chibs and Bally came off for Luke, Deano and Justin. Maybe the number of changes didn’t help, or Boots were just slow from the output, but another 2 goals in the first 10 mins of the second half effectively killed the game. Another goal was from a corner, their player having a free header in the 6 yard box, middle of the goal, and then their winger cut in from the right and managed to find the bottom corner with a well taken strike. Boots huffed and puffed to get a goal back, and 2 more subs were made; Adam replacing Matt and Pete replacing Griff, and there were half chances for Deano and Croz, with the latter hitting the post from a corner (not intentional, just a rubbish corner!), but Boots were unable to even get 1 goal back.
