The Falcons held their trial game for the season at North Birmingham Academy against Colts who had won the Division 5 title last season and were going to be an excellent test for the Falcons trying out several players for the first time and leaving several of the players from last season on the bench.
The game started with the Falcons playing some excellent passing football and had several good chances but the Colts No10 was also causing the Falcons problems down the right wing but after 13 minutes the Falcons won a throw in on the left wing and Jack came across to launch a long throw into the area the Tom managed to get a good flick header onto that nestled into the far corner to make it 1-0. After the goal went in the Falcons settled and started to stretch the Colts defence and after 20 minutes several changes were made and Ross was played in goal as cover for Luke Mac but the changes never upset the Falcons rhythm, as Tom controlled the ball in midfield and played an excellent long ball through for Sam to race onto and passed the ball into the far corner to make the score 2-0, from the kick off again the Falcons won the ball and moved it to Tyler who played a long ball for Sam to chase again and finish well to make the score 3-0. The Falcons were looking the much better side at this time but the Colts No.10 was always looking a threat and after 27 minutes he skipped past several half-hearted tackles to finish well past Ross to make the score 3-1, but from the kick off again the ball was won well and Alex delivered an excellent through ball for Jack to race onto and fire past the Colts keeper to make the score 4-1 the falcons were always looking to increase their lead but the score remained the same at half-time however in this time Ross make some excellent collections at players feet and also made a good save from the No,10’s snap shot.
The second half started with the Falcons adding Christopher, Connall, Jamie & Jacob to the line-up and they were moving the ball about well and after 44 minutes the ball was moved forward and Sam flicked a header forward that Christopher got to first and poked the ball past the Colts keeper to make the score 5-1, and shortly after again the ball was moved well and Sam had his shot cleared off the line but it was always a matter of time and after 51 minutes a throw in on the left wing saw Ross throw the ball over the top for Jack to fire past the keeper to make it 6-1.
The Falcons were looking comfortable but the Colts No.10 was still causing the defence problems and after 57 minutes he was brought down for a penalty by Ross but Luke Mac saved the kick well to keep the score 6-1. After 50 minutes a good passage of play allowed Tyler to attack the goal but his shot hit the post but after 51 minutes again the ball was moved well and Jacob moved the ball onto Jack who shot from 20 yards beat the keeper to make the score 7-1 and complete his hat-trick the game then went through a quiet patch but after 68 minutes Ross delivered a long ball for Christopher to chase and pass the ball past the Colts keeper to make the score 8-1 and the after 70 minutes the ever dangerous Colts No.10 again rode a few tackles before beating Luke Mac to make the score 8-2. The again the Falcons were moving the ball well and won a throw in on the left wing where Jack delivered another long throw for Christopher to race onto to poke the ball past the keeper to complete his hat-trick and make it 9-2 and then after 76 minutes again the Falcons broke well and Joe Mc had his shot well saved and the Jamie hit the rebound off the bar and from the rebound Tyler had his shot blocked but with time running out at 77 minutes Alex played a great ball forward and Christopher chased it down to score with a 20 yard shot to make the final score 10-2.
At the end of the game coach Jamie was very pleased with everyone’s efforts and said that himself and Michael would make a decision on the final squad by Monday evening and he would ring the players who had not made the squad and let everyone else know by text.
