The Rockets had the early kick off this week and promptly slotted into their roles against a Crewe Thunder team new to the league. Jake donned the gloves in the first period with Joel at the back, Jack in the middle, Roan and Joe down the flanks and Christian up front.
It took a few minutes for the mighty Rockets to find their passing but soon they showed the vision and pace to start carving openings, with only last minute tackles from the Thunder preventing the shots on goal. It wasn't long though before Joe's speed and tenacity paid off as he found space on the edge of the box to unleash a fierce shot to the bottom corner. 1-0 Rockets.
The team now started to smell more goals and uncertainty from the Thunder, Jack profiting from concerted pressure to convert the Rockets second minutes later. 2-0 Rockets.
By now Roan was finding space down the other flank and continued to work well combining with Jack and Christian whilst still proving strong in the tackle when needed.
Joel and Jake had little to do with most of the play in the Thunder half, when called on they snuffed out any noise from the Thunder attack.
Into the second period and Jake came into the outfield with Roan taking the number 1 jersey. Joel moved into the middle and Jack moved onto the wing. It was business as usual after the restart with more openings from Joe, Joel and Christian. The pressure became too much for Thunder with Christian opening his account with a neat touch past the keeper. 3-0 Rockets.
By now the Thunder were struggling to get out of their half Jack, Joel and Joe all providing the presence to thwart any moves forward and in turn pushing the game further towards the Thunder goal. Rockets were passing the ball, adding good movement and before long Jack latched onto a cross from Christian to burst the net. 4-0 Rockets.
A short kick out from the keeper went straight to Jack and he coolly slotted his third and Rockets 5th. 5-0 Rockets.
Continued pressure from all players quickly turned into more chances but the Thunder never gave up and continued to try to move the ball forward. Jake was there to make sure Roan didn't have much to do but one attack led to a stinging drive that Roan saved brilliantly to prevent a certain goal.
More pressure at the other end and a good passing move gave Christian another sight of goal, again dispatched with clinical efficiency and under the keeper for 6-0 Rockets. The Thunder carried on trying to play with a great spirit but the Rockets were just too strong with Christian picking up a great pass from Joe to bear down on the keeper and chip an excellent finish for his hat trick and Rockets 7th.
Into the final period with Christian going between the posts and Joe moving to defence, Jake moved up front and Joel and Jack in the middle. Roan stayed on the wing providing the width. By now the game was showing the same pattern but an attack from Thunder fell invitingly to an attacker and a low shot found the Rockets net. 7-1 Rockets.
Jake was starting to enjoy his freedom now upfront and a mazy run from his own half left the Thunder quiet again, a low rasp into the corner and a well deserved 8th.
8-1 Rockets and some good interplay with all players contributing to an entertaining game. The passing and moving of the Rockets paid off well today and all players found good space and tried to use the ball when they could. Well done all and well done to Thunder who kept going and never gave up trying.
