BA Sunday still had the sour taste of last week's defeat in their mouths as they arrived at Concorde Centre for their 2nd league game of the season. The objective was simple. Revenge.
There were 5 changes to the side from last week with Mooney, Trig, Kingy, Chris Paul and Josh all into the starting eleven. The game kicked off in pouring rain, but this in no way dampened the attitude of the BA side, who started the game well. Majority of 50-50's and headers were won by the midfield and the ball passed well despite the slippery service. BA were on top.
In a half without many chances BA's best chance fell the way of Kingy who was played in on goal by Leow, as the Firm Foundations keeper narrowed the angle, Kingy tried to lift the ball over him but the keeper saved well for a corner. Firm replied with a couple of half chances of their own, but a resolute BA defence stood strong. As half time approached, a cross from Mooney on the right appeared to catch the FF defenders hand in the area. BA appealed expectantly but the ref was not interested, and blew for half time.
Half time team talk was all about keeping it tight at the back, whilst holding the ball up better up front.
Despite what was said, 30 seconds into the 2nd half BA lost concentration and an under-hit pass resulted in Micky Howes bringing down FF forward in the box. The ref gave the penalty and BA were one down. The team looked around at each other and heads were expected to go down. But they didn't. BA continued in the same vein they had left off in the 1st half. Almost immediately, a long ball from full back was flicked on by Bish into the path of Kingy who managed to spin and hold off 1 defender and slide the ball into the bottom corner. 1-1.
From nowhere Firm Foundations scored again and BA had it all to do. In previous weeks this would have signalled the end of the game, instead with new found energy, BA took the game back to FF. A long ball from the keeper was expertly controlled by Robbie Blood, who span, beat one player and smashed the ball into the centre of the net. Fantastic goal and all square again.
BA went for the jugular. Flowing football ensued and before long a great cross from the right was expertly headed home by Karzee and BA took the lead for the 1st time this season.
With 5 minutes to go another header from Bish landed in the path of Kingy who held off the defender and lobbed the ball over the keeper from the edge of the box and the points were in the bag. 4-2. Game over!!!
Overall fantastic effort and attitude shown by the boys, coupled with exciting attacking football things are looking up. The Season most definitely starts here......
