Away league match played on 06 January 2013.
Kicked off at 11:00 AM

As Christmas and the New Year waved us off for another 12 months it was back to the serious business of league football, with the team well rested and fed, and by the looks of the two Almondbury coaches they didn’t go without this Christmas either, for my part I’m sure my jacket and shorts had shrunk in the wash???????

Today’s league fixture would take us into Leeds to play Pudsey. The weather was overcast but not too cold. The pitch looked heavy but playable and with a full squad as eager as Santa’s elves on Christmas Eve, it was top versus bottom, and we had a female referee Sara (great Arse.)!!!!

Before I start the match report, Graham and I would like to put on record our thanks to Billy Farley. Due to Pudsey only having eight players at kick off their manager asked if he could have one of our players. When the team was asked Billy put his hand up and volunteered, showing a great deal of maturity he then went on to play the full game for the home team, where he didn’t disappoint or let them down, well done Billy!

The game kicked off a few minutes late as Billy was being introduced to his new teammates, but as soon as the whistle went, Billy was the enemy. It didn’t take the league leaders long to impose their class on the home team and created chance after chance. If the Young Lion’s had brought their shooting boots this game could have been over in the first 5 minutes.  As it was Harry Smith scored a first half hat trick on 10, 11 and 22 minutes Cain Wilkinson got a double on 8 and 29 minutes with Jacob Costello and Luke Broadbent both finding the net on 6 and 17 minutes respectively, throw in an own goal the first half finished 0-8.

HT 0-8

Credit to the home team they came out in the second half, stepped it up, and held the young boys for the first 20 minutes without ever really threatening Joe Moutell or his back three. As the game entered the final throws H Smith got his fourth and Briayar Maghdeed got on the score sheet both results from great corners from Aidan Wilkinson. Pudsey never gave up and on 58 minutes got there consolation goal, but on 59 minutes Cain Wilkinson got his hat trick and well deserved it was.

FT 1-11

Editor’s thoughts.

You can only beat what is put in front of you, well-done boy’s very professional attitude today. Well done to Aidan Wilkinson whose corners were on the mark every time and to Luke Broadbent who worked his little socks off and ran himself into the ground.
