This was top versus third at the start of play as the young lions travelled to deepest Dewsbury, for their hardest game to date. And with summer making a welcomed if brief return, the match kicked off in beautiful sunshine. Manager Graham McDonald slightly changed his starting line up from the last outing.

With the clock striking midday the match got underway with neither team gaining the upper hand. It was not until the sixth minute that the first chance came, when Alex Mcdonald found Harry Smith in acres of space on the left, the young lion let fly ‘cross come shot’, somehow evaded everyone including the keeper and found its way into the back of the net 0-1, (I did ask my youngest child whether it was a cross or shot and like every good front man he said he meant it), but they all count.
As the half proceeded the game was a midfield battle and chances were at a premium with both defences always seemingly getting a last ditch tackle or clearance in, but on 16 minutes Jacob Costello doubled the lead when he put clean through by a great ball from A Mcdonald which he tucked away like a veteran.
HT 0-2
As a contest this was over 2 minutes after the restart when J Costello broke the offside trap and finished with an unstoppable shot, 0-3. The game became more open as subs were brought on and off and the home team became more adventurous and throwing more men upfront. After a quiet 40 minutes Cain Wilkinson decided to join the fun and scored a great team goal, 0-4. With 5 minutes remaining a bad mistake at the back let in Dewsbury for a consolation goal, but as the clock ticked down Almondbury had a nailed on penalty turned down and from the resulting play Harry Smith flicked on and from 4 yards out Cain Wilkinson volleyed home making it 1-5 and that as they say was that.
