Abernants win sees them pull clear from the relegation zone with a great team effort in a game that in the end was a comfortable win even though the score line suggests it was a tight contest.
2 defensive mistakes cost the Nant the opening 2 goals for the home team in the opening 25 minutes which seemed to wake the Nant up, and with some dogged play throughout the team saw them pull a goal back with a great team move resulting in David Day slamming the ball home 2-1 to Hirwaun FC , Abernants second goal came the way of a bit of luck when Mario Scaccia shot from outside the area only for Kevin O’Hara to apply a neat back heel flick which saw the ball go through the home teams keepers legs 2-2.
The home team were limited to hitting the Nant on the counter attack through the rest of the half as the Nant dominated the possession where the MOM Ryan Thomas controlled the middle of the park, but the Nant couldn’t find the next goal through the stubborn Hirwauns defence. Half time 2-2
Abernant started the second half where they left off and the Nants 3rd goal came from a set piece, Mario Scaccia took a corner only for the ball to go straight in with the home keeper flapping at the ball as it flew in, 3-2 to the Nant. The home team having limited possession, they were looking to hit the Nant on the counter, and on the 60th minute with their first foray into the Nants half some slick passing opened up the Nants defence with their forward slotting the ball under the despairing dive of the Nants keeper, 3-3.
With the Nant dominating the play it was the home team who had a chance to get the next goal, a mistake from Mario Scaccia on the edge of his own area so the forward of the home team nick the ball and as Mario Saccia tried to get to him he went over in the box with no contact made which fooled the ref who gave a penalty on the 75minute, up stepped the home teams forward who slammed the ball from the spot only for Kevin Morgan the Nants keeper guessing correctly and saving the penalty so the score remained 3-3, a let off for the Nant, with a nervy last 15minutes in sewed with the Nant still dominating the possession looking for the winner which came on the 85th minute with the MOM Ryan Thomas winning the ball in the middle of the park ball which he then passed to David Day who put the final pass into the feet of Mario Scaccia who slammed it pass the home teams keeper from 5 yards out 4-3 to the Nant, final score 4-3 to Abernant
A slow start by Abernant again cost us the opening goals, but then for the rest of the game a Great Team Effort from all the lads gave as a much needed and deserved win against a good Hirwaun team, this win sees us pull clear from the relegation zone with us only needing 1 more win from the last 3 games to see us safe leaving the Temple Bar needing to win their last 3 games which are against the top of the table teams.
Next game is against Penwaun A, who we should have beat 2 weeks ago which is a home game for us.
