Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers are a professional American football team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North Division. Founded in 1933, the Steelers are the seventh-oldest franchise in the NFL, and the oldest franchise in the AFC.
History
The Steelers were originally called the Pittsburgh Pirates, but they changed their name to the Steelers in 1940. The name change was a tribute to the city's steel industry.
The Steelers did not have much success in their early years. They did not make the playoffs until 1947, and they did not win a championship until 1974.
However, the Steelers have been one of the most successful teams in the NFL since the 1970s. They have won six Super Bowls, more than any other team.
