History

Royton Athletic FC were founded in 2003 by a group of local footballers who wanted to create a team that would play competitive football at a high standard. The club quickly established itself in the Hyde, Oldham & District Sunday Football League and have since won the league title on three occasions.

The club has also enjoyed success in cup competitions, winning the Manchester FA Sunday Cup in 2016 and the Lancashire FA Sunday Cup in 2019.

The Hyde, Oldham & District Sunday Football League is an amateur football league based in Greater Manchester, England. The league was founded in 1922 and currently has over 100 clubs affiliated to it.

The league is divided into three divisions, the First Division, the Second Division, and the Third Division. The top two teams from the First Division are promoted to the North West Counties Football League Division Two at the end of each season, while the bottom two teams from the First Division are relegated to the Second Division.

The league's headquarters are located at the Oldham Athletic Community Trust Stadium in Oldham.
