Bury Football Club is an English association football club based in Bury, Greater Manchester which plays in the Premier Division of the North West Counties League, the ninth tier of the English football pyramid.
The club was founded in 1885 and has played at Gigg Lane since then. They have won the FA Cup twice, in 1900 and 1903, and have also been runners-up on three occasions.
Bury were expelled from the Football League in 2019 due to financial problems. They were reformed as Bury AFC in 2020 and have since been playing in the North West Counties League.
History
Bury was founded in 1885 and was one of the founder members of the Football League in 1888. They were a consistent mid-table team in the early years of the League, but they won their first FA Cup in 1900, beating Southampton 2-1 in the final.
Bury won their second FA Cup in 1903, beating Derby County 6-0 in the final. They also reached the final in 1906, 1908, and 1920, but lost on each occasion.
Bury's best period came in the 1950s and 1960s, when they finished in the top six of the First Division on four occasions. They also reached the FA Cup semi-finals in 1961 and 1964.
Bury's fortunes declined in the 1970s and 1980s, and they were relegated from the First Division in 1992. They have since yo-yoed between the second and third tiers of English football.
