Introduction
Football Club Copenhagen (commonly known as FC København, FC Copenhagen, Copenhagen or simply FCK) is a professional Danish football club based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The club was founded in 1992 as a superstructure on top of Kjøbenhavns Boldklub and Boldklubben 1903.
FCK plays its home matches at the Parken Stadium, which also serves as the venue for Denmark national football team matches. The club has won a shared record 15 Danish Football Championships and a shared record 9 Danish Cups. In European football, FCK has reached the group stage of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League more times than any other Danish club and are the only Danish club who have reached the knockout stage of the Champions League.
FCK has a fierce rivalry with Brøndby IF, with whom they contest the Copenhagen Derby. The two clubs have met over 300 times in competitive matches, with FCK having won the most.
History
FC Copenhagen was founded on July 1, 1992, as a result of the merger of two of Copenhagen's oldest football clubs, Kjøbenhavns Boldklub (KB) and Boldklubben 1903 (B1903). The merger was controversial at the time, but it has since proved to be a success.
FCK won their first Danish Football Championship in 1993, and they have since gone on to win the title 14 more times. They have also won the Danish Cup nine times.
In European football, FCK has reached the group stage of the UEFA Champions League 13 times, and the UEFA Europa League 11 times. They have also reached the knockout stage of the Champions League on one occasion, in 2010-11.
