Good job today lads, full marks to that team-talk, it was the basis for a deserved a win.  We started well again; we were vocal and kept the ball moving quite nicely.  Tim hadn’t even finished stretching when Ellis skinned two players and won a free kick down in the right corner.  It was a lovely whipped ball which evaded everyone and bounced into the top corner. A good start. With such an early goal it looked like it could well be a drubbing in the first half, but I think we were hindered slightly by the sun and the hard surface.  We got some good balls deep into our opponent’s area but just couldn’t get the killer touch.

We should have been 3-0 up in ten minutes but instead ended up level.  Three of their players were allowed too much time and space and they created a decent one-on-one which was rifled in. Luckily that was the first and last time they tested us. Ellis was enjoying himself down the right this week, beating players for fun. He was putting his balls on a plate for us from the corners but we just couldn’t find the net.  Eventually he got his assist, pulling one square from open play for Scotty to slot in on the turn. We should have gone in 5 goals to the good at the break but had to settle for 2-1.

Like most games this season it was a second half goal fest at The Priory. They pushed on to begin with, but with one up top they never looked like breaking through, and it didn’t take us long to extend our lead. To be honest, I don’t know what Wyman and their full back were up to, but our man was determined and found the venom to pull a good ball back for Scotty to tap in his second. Tim turned and d without a shred of irony “that is the worst goal I’ve ever seen”. Nevertheless it was deserved and a long time coming, and the game was pretty much over before the hour mark.

Ellis was still making it hard for their left flank who could be heard sighing “ah you ****” after some trademark nutmegs.  He was todays Man of the Match for me, constantly causing them problems and were it not for us missing our chances he should have had 5 or more assists. It was Ellis’ cross which took a couple of amateur deflections before Matt could nod it home. Within two minutes we got our 5th thanks to another cameo from Coxy, coupled with some more shocking defending. Johnny played a nice one-two with Coxy who absolutely smashed it passed the keeper. That’s 2 assists and 1 goal in about half an hour on the pitch from the returning winger. After that we started to lose our discipline and out shape somewhat. Like at the start of the season when we were up against poor, uninterested teams. We would score a lot more goals if we kept things tight and stuck to our strengths.

That being said, we got a sixth late on after Matt was needlessly brought down in the box. No-one was going to deny Scotty his chance for the hat-trick and he buried it to the keeper’s right. 4 goals in two now for the skipper. I don’t think we played as well as we should have today, but that isn’t helped when the game turns out to be quite an easy affair. We should have notched a few more goals because we may need them come the end of the season. The league’s not won yet so lets make sure we’re there to pick up the pieces if Wizard throw it away.  We’re back to our dominating ways so lets try to keep that up for the last few games of the season.
