In an away day game at Symene Playing Fields on 9th March 2025, Wimborne Town Women Development triumphed over Bridport Ladies Reserves with a resounding scoreline of 7-2. The match kicked off at 2:00pm, and the home side showcased their attacking prowess throughout the encounter, leaving their opponents struggling to keep pace at times, however the overall quality of the Wimborne play shone through.

Wimborne lined up in a 3-2-3-2 formation, which allowed them to dominate both the midfield and attacking phases of play. Millie Shearing took her place in goal, while a back three comprised of Ava Dove, Chloe Dover, and Poppy Harris provided a solid defensive foundation. In midfield, Mya Richardson and Ellen Bader operated centrally, tasked with linking defence and attack, while Lucie Oliver, Georgia Mitton, and Lauren Ellery formed a dynamic trio of attacking midfielders. Up front, Sophie Harris and Bobbi White were positioned as forwards, expected to exploit any defensive lapses from Bridport.

The substitutes for Wimborne included Acacia Rogers, Alice Cunningham-Smith, Bay Woods, and Molly Collins, who would later play pivotal roles in the match.

The game began with a shock as Bridport Ladies Reserves took an early lead just one minute in, scoring with a long-range strike that caught the Wimborne defence off guard. However, the home side quickly regrouped and began to assert their dominance. It was difficult to get any rhythm on a small pitch but as the half went on Wimborne started to attack, create chances and benefitted from a number of corners. Bridport defended well making it hard for the Wimborne forwards.

In the 22nd minute, Lauren Ellery equalised for Wimborne, finishing expertly inside the box (with her right foot!) after a long throw assist from Ava Dove. Just two minutes later, Georgia Mitton put Wimborne ahead, converting a team move with a precise finish following a long pass from Ellen Bader.

As the match progressed, Wimborne continued to apply pressure, and in the 35th minute, they benefitted from an own goal by a Bridport player, with Ava Dove providing the cross that led to the unfortunate deflection.

Bridport managed to pull one back just before half-time, scoring from outside the area in the 45th minute, leaving the score at 3-2 as the teams headed into the break.

The second half commenced with a stunning direct free-kick from Ellen Bader, who found the back of the net just two minutes after the restart, extending Wimborne's lead to 5-2. Georgia Mitton then added her second goal of the match in the 51st minute, further solidifying Wimborne's control.

In the 60th minute, Bay Woods made her mark by scoring with a header from a corner, assisted by Acacia Rogers, bringing the score to 6-2. Woods wasn't finished yet; she capped off an impressive performance with a solo goal in the 81st minute, showcasing her skill and determination.

The match concluded with Wimborne Town Women Development celebrating a comprehensive victory, demonstrating their attacking flair and tactical superiority over Bridport Ladies Reserves. The referee, Terry Oldrid, oversaw the match with a commendable performance, ensuring the game flowed smoothly.
