It is Yorkshire Cup day and the Wibs celebrated by getting some changing room for the first time in years. Their Opponents were Peel Park FC a well ran team who looked a professional outfit from the start.
Now as my son is making it impossible to write this I'm going to keep it short. Peel Park played the better football for the first 40 minutes and really should have been ahead, the only reason the wibs stayed in the game was there tremendous effort. Somehow in the 41st minute the wibs scored on the break, a hopefully long ball was turned round the defender by Steve Kaye for Tom to run on too and race to the by line, once there he played a great ball across the goal line For Yussef to score an easy tap in for his first of the season. The wibs held this lead to the break and were glad to get the rest whilst having there motivational speech by Captain Marsh.
The 2nd half started ok for the wibs and they had started to match peel for the first time in the match until a goal that can only go down as a heart breaker was scored. The ball was played through and the striker started to run on too it but as he saw he was offside he stopped and started walking back to the half way line, the ref seeing this let the game continue. 21 players on the pitch knew the game was still going on apart from 1; unfortunately it was the player with the ball, the wibs goal keeper. The wibs keeper threw the ball back out thinking there was a free kick to be taken and sent it back to the striker, the Peel park striker did what any good striker would do and took advantage to go on and score an easy goal.
At 1-1 the wibs heads dropped and Peel went on to score 2 more goals to bring the game to 3-1. The wibs through on all of their strikers with 15 to go and hoped for a miracle and in the 81st minute Andy G gave the wibs hope by scoring a cracking effort in too the top corner after a goal mouth scramble. In the 88th the wibs managed to level after Andy G put a cross to the front stick to be met By Steve Kaye who scored one he will remember after looping his header over the keeper and in to the net. The Wibs players and fans celebrated by the corner flag all hoping that the win still might come.
Extra time came and the Wibs players looked knackered after putting everything in to the last 15 minutes the other problems was that they had 4 strikers now on the pitch. Peel scored a very iffy goal early on in extra time with a goal that looked yards offside. The wibs fought bravely after that but ran out of steam going on to lose the game...
A cracking game...
