1st game of the season saw us come up against Owsten Ferry out of the Gainsborough league, although not the biggest name to play against they were a team who put everything they had into this game
The game started just as we wanted, putting pressure on the OF defence right from the off causing them all sorts of problems. We suffered a set back when a mix up in the defence saw the OF striker nick the ball away from us and calmy slotted away the first goal of the game...
The Travs pressure was relentless, even more so after the early setback, attack after attack finally paid off when Kennie Tant (Rory Delap) launched a throw into the box which found its way to Mabo Maplethorpe at the back stick to tuck away the equaliser!
With the Travs dominating possession, things were starting to click in attack, numerous chances were smartly saved by the OF goalkeeper and two shots blocked off the line from Ash Stephenson and Jake Fisher, both being really unlucky! With the pressure saw the ball come loose on the 6 yard box for grant to score a lovely over head to put us in front!
The pressure continued to pay off with a well worked team move leading to ash s laying the ball off to me to rifle the 3rd goal in!
After the HT break we took our foot off the attacking and tried to tire our opponents out with our typical Travs silky passing game. Unfortunately this led to us getting sloppy in possession and OF hitting us with another quick fire goal from nowhere!
After getting our heads together the TRFC tikki takka paid off once again with the defence playing some lovely build up play ending with Kennie spraying the ball out to the left wing for Cal Coates to weave his magic against their right back, who is still looking for where cal went, to cross the ball to the oncoming Tom Gibson to smash home the 4th goal to seal the Travs 1st win of the season, and to send us through to the next round!
Big mention goes out to the whole squad who travelled today, everyone chipped in and as always the banter was flowing heavier than Craig Adams mum
