Due to P & E’s pitch being water logged the game was switched to ‘The Dubs’ home of football…The Harold Wilson.
With 3 players missing due to injury & work commitments for this weeks game, ‘The Dubs’ were able to filed a strong squad against an inform Preston & Eaglescliffe side.
The game started slowly for ‘The Dubs’ with P&E scoring a controversial goal in the 5th minute with keeper Dan Dixon failing to hold the ball under a very strong challenge from a P&E player. Despite appeals by the home team referee Mansell gave the goal.
An equaliser came in the 30th minute following a corner from Craig Norman, converted by Chris Burton with a powerful header at the front post.
The Dubs’ piled on the pressure with James Hackett hitting the post and free kicks from Darren Humphrey, Craig Norman and Callum Hannah coming close.
In the 40th minute, the home side took the lead with Gareth Licence finishing a cross from James Hackett.
Half Time 2-1
The 2nd half stated with P&E going on the attack from the whistle with some good attacking moves down the left scoring an equaliser in the 50th minute.
P&E then scored another 2 goals in quick succession in the 55th & 60th minute to make the score 2-4.
In a desperate effort to get something out of the game, manager Burton made 3 substitutions with Flynn(Goswami), Burton(Morris) and Hackett (Dicarlo) being replaced.
An injury to keeper Dan Dixon in the 70th minute meant that ‘The Dubs’ were reduced to 10 men with midfielder Darren Humphrey having to take position in the sticks.
With stand in keeper Humphrey pulling of several good saves the score remained at 2-4.
