Remember the date....remember where you were!....
Saturday 13th October 2012 is the day Starlands Girls finally managed to do to a team what happens to them
Today, the luck was finally with Starlands...the ball bounced for them...the ball went in!...It was a goal frenzy!....
It has been a long time coming - with our last victory being January 2012 v Erdington - I remember it because it was Samanthas Birthday and we played Erdington Ladies. From whom we now have Chloe , Alex and Grace !
Today, Sinead was Captain - we were missing Hafsah and Laurice - Who were at Alton Towers and a Music Competition.
I hope they did as well as well did and had as much fun?!!
The first goal game from Hannah - who tried a speculative shot and it went in for an early 1-0 lead.
This is unheard of, Starlands going up ? and so early on. But, it had the desired effect and the girls sensed something special and grew immediately in confidence.
Ellie was making her debut - and looked comfortable on the ball. She was fed with a through ball from Samantha and tucked it away for 2-0.
This was followed by another long range strike by Samantha that went wide.
Kiera was everywhere and a lovely cross found Samantha unmarked at the back post and she made it 3-0. Finally the girls are listening! and maybe reaping a goal in the same position in a previous game - Learning?!
Alex was having a great game at the back , and was playing balls through to the midfield down the flanks. She played a great ball through to Ellie who guided it onto Amber who slipped it into the corner for the fourth!
A break by Brinklow was ended quickly by Hannah who then played the ball straight out to Kiera who passed it onto Rosie. She struck the ball on the run and it deflected into the net! 5-0....Was this a dream????
Rosie was looking strong up front and chased down the defender - putting her under pressure she managed to get the 6th!
The half time talk this week was easy!....Carry on girls!
The second half, Brinklow were more resolute in defence and decided not to take any chances by playing the ball off the park when in their own box.
This is a tactic which Starlands are starting to employ in recent weeks - and it works!...Brinklow were looking to get back into the game. However, Starlands - were playing brilliantly in defence - Jade body checked a player to the ground. She was clearing the ball much better - and was having her best game to date.
Sinead and Chloe covered for each other - and marshalled the defence. Holly although not required much in this game - was concentrating hard. She claimed the ball well, she called for the ball and kicked out of her hand the best to date! and in the first half saved a certain own goal by Sinead , she dived to her right side and pushed the ball wide - amazing save!
Sam made a great block in the centre of the park, and the ball fell to Ruby who crossed to Grace who was unfortunate to just push the ball too far ahead of her.
Infact , if Starlands had managed to keep the ball under a little more control they could have scored another four goals - but by just pushing it too far ahead it allowed the goalkeeper to gather the ball in the nick of time....Am I getting greedy?!!
Quick throws down the flanks by Alex and Hannah were catching Brinklow unaware and Starlands were keeping Brinklow pinned down in their half.
Grace had another shot that went under the Brinklow goalkeepers legs but just stopped on the line! Starlands were struggling to score their 7th.
That was until Ruby finally got what she deserved. All her previous frustrated efforts were forgotten! She was on the score sheet and richly deserved. She was so excited that she forgot to get back into her own half for the re start! ;)
The last goal - was a great team move. The defence broke up another Brinklow attack - playing the ball to Ellie who went on an amazing run down the right wing before crossing to Amber who smacked the ball into the roof of the net! 8-0
Fantastic effort girls - and well played.
Girl of The Game was again a tough decision - Ellie scoring on her debut? Hannahs first goal for the club?Holly for a great save? Rosie & Amber for two goals? Jade for her best game to date? etc. etc. But, it went to Alex for her tackling, passing, throw ins and as always smile :)
A special mention must go to Brinklow - because we know how they must feel. They were pefect hosts - lovely changing rooms and nice players and spectators.
We look forward to playing them again in three weeks time in The League.
Also Thank you to other Managers in The League for their well wishes on our first win!
