St Mary's FC Under 13's maintained their 100% winning start to their league campaign with a gritty come from behind 5 - 2 victory against Lough Moss Jets at Ormeau Park on Saturday.
The boys started a little hesitantly, perhaps they were all a little tired after the St Mary’s disco on Friday night! The first chance of the game fell to Parke whose shot from 12 yards was well saved by the Lough Moss keeper. Minutes later McNaughton was put through and fired over the bar. After 12 minutes St Mary's took the lead when a 20 yard daisycutter from McCormcik gave the keeper no chance. Instead of pressing home their advantage, the Saints took their foot off the pedal and allowed Lough Moss back into the game. From an in-swinging corner, defender Lynch put through his own goal while trying to clear the ball. It got worse 2 minutes later when a ball over the top had the defence well beaten and the striker lashed the ball past keeper Morgan for a 2 - 1 lead.
St Mary’s pressed for an equaliser and it arrived on the stroke of half-time through Parke got a well deserved goal and proceeded with a celebratory dance with the corner flag!
Half time 2 - 2
St Mary’s piled the pressure on straight from the kick off and took the lead when O'Reilly picked up a pass from McGarrity on the left wing and drove into the box before slotting coolly home for a 3 - 2 lead. St Mary’s pressure had Lough Moss on the defensive with Bannon, Ross, McNaughton and McGarrity getting the upper hand in midfield. With ten minutes remaining a Ross through ball sent both Parke and O'Reilly clear, with O'Reilly taking charge and rounding the keeper to extend the lead.
Breen and McCormick both came close to making it 5 before Ross, kept up his goal a game record with a shot from distance which had the keeper well beaten. Star men this week were Lynch and McCormick.
