Wednesday 7th April 2010 – Venue St James Catley Park…aka Monkton Stadium
Monkton Vipers Vs Felling Magpies….a decent side for the Vipers to test their skills against…..
Thought for the game courtesy of Bryan Robson – “We are going to start the game at 0 – 0 and try to go out and score some goals”….good idea Bryan. Why didn’t I think of that ?
James Reed, Thomas and Joe, Kyle, James Catley, Max and Matthew all starting tonight, in the first of our evening games of 2010….with Mason, Kaie and Sam warming the bench to start us off…loads of catch up games to play so lets see if we could get off to a great start tonight.
Kicking off into some lovely sunshine was Thomas and Joe, with a long ball through to the Felling half quickly cleared for a throw…taken quickly in from James Reed, played across to Kyle then through to Thomas who tucked it away to make it 1 – 0 Vipers and a great start….electric pace set by the Vipers !
Felling kicking off and Thomas straight in with the tackle…winning it and passing across to Kyle who ran away down the wing, taking on 2 Felling players before whipping a ball across from the bye-line…..snaking it through to Joe Mitchell who clipped the ball away to make it 2 – 0….BRILLIANT start guys and an example of how easy the game is when you PASS the ball !
Kick off from Monkton and a long ball through to our defence saw James Catley collect the ball nicely, passing onto Max who picked up the ball, nice control and patience, looking up to pass the ball down the line to Kyle who crossed for Joe….this time tackled by Felling but James Reed tackled well, winning the ball back for Monkton…..nice interplay between James and Thomas created another chance but the keeper just pushed it wide….good effort Tom !
The goal kick from Felling wasn’t the best, James Reed pouncing on it and playing it to Tom, then onto Kyle who went down the line and pinged a cross over…just behind the goal though this time…
Mason on, James Reed off, Kaie on Thomas off, James Catley off, Sam on…
Kaie straight into the action, tackling and chasing back, you’d never guess he’d just come back from holiday ! 2 weeks on a beach seems to be the thing to do to give you bags of energy ! Must try it myself…..
More good work in midfield, this time from Mason, winning the ball, passing in to Kaie who played a cracking ball through to Joe who tucked it away again….magic from Joe, in a rich vein of form, and 3 – 0 Vipers….nice work all round lads.
Felling trying their hardest to attack the Vipers goal but some resilient defending from Nemanja Vidic, sorry Max Brown, just would not let them past….another nice ball down the wing to Kyle saw a cross into the Felling box and Joes shot just went wide ….the goal kick didn’t come out too far and Felling spent a little too long deciding what to do with it….Mason was in sharpest and hit a great shot from the edge of the box into the top corner and made it 4 – 0 to Monkton….excellent finish Mason…just like your old Dad…(well, as I remember it anyway)…
Half time
Main points of the team talk – good effort and working hard so far. Lets think about our passing and moving, supporting each other.
Thought for the 2nd half – from Alan Green Radio 5 Live Commentator…”John Arne Riise was quite rightly blown up for that foul” .it was a bad tackle but the punishment maybe a little harsh ? Blown up??
Straight in from the kick off, winning the ball and running through from Kaie, who was then fouled on the edge of the box…lining up the free kick himself and getting his team mates into position…..good run up and smashing strike powering the ball home into the roof of the Felling net to make it 5 – 0.
Good ball over the top from Felling saw Sam chasing back to win a brilliant tackle, putting the ball out into touch and giving his team mates a chance to regroup..
Corner for Felling, headed clear by Kaie but knocked back in and kicked out for another corner by Sam – good defending mate.
The corner this time went wide and the goal kick gave Matthew his first touch of the evening – nice goal kick, long and accurate through to Kaie, who was tackled but managed to get a tackled back in.
More good tackling from Kyle won the ball back, passing into Kaie then through for Mason who ran through but had the shot saved – pushed out wide….head up mate and you would have seen Joe open on the far post but good effort all the same.
Corner from Monkton, put right into the box then kicked clear…Max following up and fired a shot in that looped up to Mason, put it through the defenders legs then Joe’s first time shot was blocked by the keeper…great effort.
Corner from Kyle and a first time right foot effort from Mason just looped over the bar…great effort though…because lets face it, the ball WAS traveling from Kyle !!!
Changes again, the 2 x James back on, Thomas on, Max off, Joe off, Kyle off…..
James Catley straight into the action working hard down the left but just pulling his shot wide….
Good clearance from Felling saw the ball break through again, Sam blocking well with Thomas and playing in James Reed, good run through but tackled by Felling….excellent tracking back by James, supported by Mason to win the ball back and hit long for Kaie to chase…
Nice effort by Kaie, blocked shot coming back to Mason, tried to take on one too many players and was tackled….shots starting to rain in on the Felling goal and eventually another Kaie Coates effort slid home to make it 6 – 0….
Full time and a good 6 – 0 win for the Vipers…
Nice effort tonight, some good passing, excellent working for each other, some magical goals, notably another Thomas Goal, Joes Hat-trick and a welcome return by Kaie, scoring a lovely free kick and contributing to the team.
Great performances from James Catley, Max, Sam and Thomas keeping another clean sheet, James Reed, Joe, Mason, Kyle and Kaie combining well to carve out chances and keep the pressure on the opposition.
Matthew – a quiet night but you were always ready to go when needed…good to keep your concentration going and stay focussed.
Man of the Match went to Joe Mitchell and Kyle Ferguson but once again, ANY of you could have won it tonight.
Well done guys !
