In a challenging league encounter at Coventrians Rugby Club on 8th February 2025, SJB Juniors faced Coventry City Girls F C U14 Red, ultimately succumbing to a 4-1 defeat. The match, which kicked off at 11:00 am, saw the home side dominate the play, leaving SJB Juniors with much to ponder as they returned home.
SJB Juniors adopted a 4-4-2 formation, which is traditionally designed to provide a solid defensive base while allowing for width in attack. Grace McCombie took her place in goal, shielded by a back four comprising India Holt on the right, Niamh Thompson and Daisy Cunningham as central defenders, and Summer Brown on the left. The midfield was structured with Eva Hart on the right, Freya Nicholson and Maz Hadi in central roles, and Kyra Irving on the left. Up front, Auraya Thomas and Amalia McCloud-Soloman were tasked with leading the line, looking to exploit any gaps in the Coventry defence.

The second half began with Coventry continuing their offensive onslaught, and they quickly doubled their lead in the 43rd minute, further extending their advantage.
SJB Juniors made a tactical switch at the start of the second half, bringing India Holt back onto the pitch, replacing Ruby McCarthy just after the break. However, the momentum remained with Coventry, who scored again in the 49th minute, making it 3-0 and leaving SJB Juniors with a mountain to climb.
In a bid to respond, SJB Juniors saw another substitution in the 54th minute as Ruby McCarthy returned to the fray, this time replacing Kyra Irving, who had to leave the pitch due to injury.
Despite the mounting pressure, SJB Juniors finally found a glimmer of hope in the 60th minute when Auraya Thomas scored, assisted by Amalia McCloud-Soloman. This goal injected some life into the team and offered a brief respite from Coventry's relentless attack.
However, the joy was short-lived as Coventry quickly restored their three-goal cushion just four minutes later, scoring their fourth goal in the 64th minute.
As the match drew to a close, SJB Juniors were left to reflect on a disappointing performance, with Amalia McCloud-Soloman being recognised for her efforts as the standout player of the match. The final whistle confirmed a 4-1 defeat for SJB Juniors, a result that highlighted the need for improvement as they look to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.
