These two sides met for the 2nd time in as many weeks, the Plough were coming into this game in good form having beating Bowburn 17-0 the week before, and beating Sundays opponents 5-1 at their ground two weeks earlier.
The Plough started the better of the 2 sides, keeping the ball well, and looking dangerous with every attack, Stephen Maddox getting the break through after 12 minutes a good team move with the ball being played from the back into midfield then onto Moore, he flicked it around the corner for Maddox he looked up and saw the keeper off his line, and clipped it over him for his 7th League goal of the campaign.
The Plough continued to press with the visitors struggling to get out of their own half, the home team had the ball in the net again only for it to be disallowed for offside, that didn't dampen the spirits of the home side who came again, this time, Coxon intercepted a sloppy ball from their midfield, he played wide right to Johnson who did the rest, beat his man and laid it across the box for Coxon to finish.
The Plough then seemed to switch off, and the visitors came back into the game, they controlled the rest of the second half limiting the home team to one or two attacks on the break, as much of the ball that Brancepeth had they seemed to lack the creativity that had seen the Plough score twice, however Price was called into action from the Spot, the first decent ball into the box our defence had to face and the referee pointed to the spot, Dan Hall adjudged to foul the striker at the back post, he stepped up and converted, although Price was unlucky as he got a hand to it.
The Plough held out for a half time lead of 2-1.
The second half was much like the end of the first half, Brancepeth kept the ball in midfield but rarely threatened Price's goal, the one clear cut chance in the whole match happened within minutes of the restart, it was a long ball that caught our defence out their striker rounded Price but he then missed the ball with the goal gaping, it was a huge let off.
The home side had a penalty shout of their own, Richard Johnson was sent through as he tripped from behind and went down the referee waved away the claims of a penalty kick, even the away team admitting it was a penalty.
Brancepeth rallied at the end, at tested Price from the edge of the box but he was equal to it, with 10 minutes to go they were pushing for the equaliser but again didn't carve out any clear cut chances; the last shot on target was headed over the bar with a few minutes left.
The Plough held on for a massive 2-1 victory, meaning we are now 3 points behind the league leaders with 3 games in hand, and much greater goal difference.
The league title is now firmly in our own hands, but we still face tough games, starting next week with a home game against Local Rivals Sherburn Village.
