After a long drive through the county side Rowfant arrived in Chichester in an upbeat mood. After starting very slowly you could tell that today was not going to be our day, we struggled to keep the ball under control in the early stages of the game with the ball flying to all parts of the ground and the pressure was starting to build on Rowfant.
Rowfant started to get into the game and with that TC was impeded and Rowfant was awarded a penalty. Up steps Cole who sent the keeper the wrong but unfortunately the keeper managed to save the penalty with his feet. This seemed to give the Whyke team more motivation and the pressure was starting to mount on the Rowfant defence but some good solid defending from Adam kept them at bay.
Rowfant started the 2nd half with more believe and started to play some good football, but against the run of play Rowfant lost concentration on a corner that was drilled in at the near post and the ball was slotted home given Chris no chance.
Straight from the kick off Rowfant started to work harder and with some good play down the left Louis drove at the Whyke defence taking on the full back but only to see his shot rebound off the post. Rowfant continued to keep the pressure up but it looked like we were never going to score. Then from nowhere Cole won the ball in the middle of the park and hit the ball from 30 yards, the ball sailed through the air and hit the underside of the bar and then bounced into the roof of the net (SCREAMER). As extra time was looming the game went stale with both teams happy to see out the 90 mins.
The game was getting stretched in extra time and with that the passes were getting longer making it very easy for both defences. The game seemed to be heading for penalties. With only 5 mins left on the clock Whyke won the ball in midfield and from 25 yards they got a shot off that seemed to move in every direction and then just dropped short of Chris and then somehow the ball managed to spin off his gloves into the net. With Rowfant needing a goal we pushed 4 upfront but for only Whyke Utd to catch us out on the break.
With a good start to the season so far I am sure Rowfant will show there bounce back ability on Saturday
