With varies players missing due to tiredness, injures and other commitments, the team still had enough quality to dominate the match and win comfortable.
However that was not the case; poor mindset from the beginning had the team playing unnecessary long ball (most times to no one). Providence House FC must have thought Stockwell Community FC was an easy opponent and therefore did not apply any of short passes high tempo that has been talked about in numerous classroom/tactical training session or the varies passes (short and chip), keep ball or defending practical/technical sessions.
One of the worst games ever witness score-line kicked off with Rasheed scoring after receiving a pass from Omar on the 15th minute. Numerous chances such as open goals and one on one followed before the referee blow his whistle for half-time, with the score still being 1-0 to Providence House.
During halftime Providence House FC manager gave a team talk which involved a famous quote of “I play football not rugby so keep the ball on the floor” as well as reminder of the invisible which should runs through the field (separation of Center midfielder).
The second half began the same; however Stockwell Community FC had figured out that Providence House FC was direct with the numerous amounts of long balls being played. A high defense line seems to be Stockwell Community FC change of tactics and it was working.
10 minutes after the restart (second half) Stockwell Community FC was back in the game after a corner. Providence then replied 3 minutes later after Reece found Connor in the opponent box.
The game seems to have been over for Stockwell Community FC when Nicholas found the net after receiving a ball from Jahni, however with only 60 minutes gone that was not the case.
Complacency was again shown by Providence House FC. Despite working on defending in previous training sessions and 2 vs 2 hours before in their last training, the lack of players able to defend was on show.
After deciding to take his time on the ball and then trying to switch play via a long ball when closed down by 2 players, one of providence players kicked the ball towards his own goal and that error was punished – making the score-line 3-2 on 65th minute. 3 minutes later a penalty was given in favour of Stockwell Community FC, the ball was adjudged to have strike a player hand. The penalty was saved by Oussama and the score reminded 3-2.
On the 70th minute, Stockwell Community FC got the equalisinggoal and it looked like the game would go into extra time.
Providence House FC however prevented that, getting the lead after one of varies long balls (this time by Connor) played in the game found Darnell on the 74th minute. The game was then put to rest on the 77th minute when Darnell made it 5-3 after the referee awarded Providence House FC a penalty when one of Stockwell Community defenders brought down Rasheed.
Providence progress in the cup to face Lambeth Tigers FC in the next round.
A realisation for Providence House FC manager that some players may not be as good as first thought.
