Argyle returned to league business this week and after a couple of poor results and more importantly, poor performances and work ethics, we were determined to get things right. Everyone turned up early to put the nets up, good start and everyone paid subs, possibly the first time ever that everyone paid subs.
Having battered Chapelford 7-3 a couple of weeks ago, there was concern that we would go into the game too cocky and I wanted to make sure that wasn't the case. this was a vastly different Chapelford side than our last meeting and we knew we would be in a game.
The game was a battle from early on with Argyle just shading territory for the forst 20 mins or so. We had many long throws and corners and created chance after chance without any real clear cut chances to pull away. The back four with the return of Mike Doyle looked solid all half with the now established Jay, Thommo and Nabi also in the back four.
The game was scrappy, punctuatated with many Argyle set pieces and the odd Chapelford break which they looked dangerous from.
Towards the end of the half, Tom Doyle, back from Injury beat the offside trap and went 1 on 1 with the Chapelford keeper only to be denied with a good save.
Half time 0-0.
Half time was simple, continue with what you are doing and the chances will come. All the players on the field were fighting for the cause and i wouldn't ever ask for any more.
Early in the second half, it was Argyle who again began creating chances with an early shot from Mike Willow hitting the cross bar.
Chelsea was also beginning to look dangerous, beating his full back almost every time and putting some good balls into the box.
Midway through the half, some of the Chapelford side began acting like toddlers, kickin off all over the pitch and seemingly trying to ruin the flow of the game to keep it tight. There must have been 4 square ups in 5 mins and it was turning into a farce. Soon after the chapelford striker hit a long looping shot from all of 35 yards which dropped and hit the foot of the post in a let off for Prescot.
From here it was Prescot asking the questions, Lee, Milnes and Valentine replaced Doyle (M), Doyle (T) and Chelsea to bring some fresh legs. Ste Roach moved upfront and his run through lead to the keeper bringing him down for a penalty with just minutes left.
Mr Roach stood up and converted himself and looked to have sealed the 3 points for Prescot but a freekick in the last minute to Chapelford was uted superbly into the top corner for the equaliser.
It was dissapointing to conceed so late haveing felt we'd done enough but these things happen and it was just better to see some spirit and fight. If we play like that, it doesn't matter what the score is, we can be proud that we worked for each other and wouldn't give up.
MOM could have been Jay Long, who was very solid at the back or Ste Roach for winning and taking the penalty and generally playing well but it goes to Shiraz Nabi who had arguably his best game in a Prescot Argyle (Or Rainproof Roofing) shirt.
