Following a run of 5 wins on the trot it was very disappointing to get knocked out of the County Cup, losing 3-2 to St Alban Youth.
This match was always going to be tougher than Saturday’s game.
We got off to an awful start and had to chase the game from then on. An unlucky bounce, similar to that of Paul Robinson’s against Croatia, caught Ross out for the first goal and then we were beaten by a looping shot to see us trailing by 2 goals to nil.
But the boys did show great attitude and played some nice football. We pulled one back with Baz scoring a fine goal and then in the second half we had a few good chances that were brilliantly saved by their keeper.
We kept pressuring St Alban’s goal but the final nail in our coffin was hammered in when the oppo scored another long range effort to make it 3-1.
It was nevertheless brilliant to see the boys not give up and again we pushed on to try and get back in the match. Chris Pantelli scored his first goal of the season nicking one at the back post but there were only seconds left and not enough time for the boys to get a deserved equaliser.
I thought Michael Turner had a great game. Excellent to see him heading the ball, starting in the right position and using his speed to sweep round the rest of the defence.
